Specific journal references are available on any aspect of SMT. A search of the COMPENDEX Engineering Index 1987-present will show over 1500 references specifically to SMT topics. 

Engineering Index (Engineering Information Inc. published monthly) abstracts material from thousands of periodicals and conferences. It is known as Compendex in its electronic version. 

As the industry expands, there is a growing need for technical data sources. One of the most comprehensive is the Ei Compendex from Elsevier [20].

Some resources are repeated in several chapters. These are resources that are critical to the field, for example, Compendex. They are repeated to emphasize their importance and to guarantee the reader sees them if they don t check Chapter 2. 

Engineering Index. 1884 -. Hoboken, NJ Elsevier Engineering Information. The most comprehensive index to the world s engineering literature provides very good coverage of the journal and conference literature in aeronautical and aerospace engineering. Available online as the Compendex database (see Chapter 2, this volume). 

Engineering Village. With an institutional subscription and registration, you can set up weekly alerts and RSS feeds in Compendex. 

Inspec http //www.theiet.org/ (accessed July 26, 2010) (1898-). London lET. Inspec is the combined electronic version of Physics Abstracts, Computer and Control Abstracts and Electrical and Electronics Abstracts. This has been the standard database in the field of EE and, with the extension of the back file to 1898, it encompasses the very earliest EE literature. No literature search in the field would be complete without consulting this resource and, in most cases, this database would be the first choice for a literature search. However, Inspec does not provide blanket coverage of all EE resources and, in order to conduct a comprehensive search, it is necessary to use it in conjunction with Compendex. Several vendors offer subscription and/or pay-as-you-go access to the database. 

ISI Web of Science (Science Citation Index). Within EE, the primary reason for using this resource is to access the citation indexing, which covers both journal and conference literature. For a subject search, Inspec or Compendex wiU usually provide superior results. (See additional information in Chapter 2 of this book.)... 

Another strategy to determine journal additions for the collection is to identify the journals in which faculty are publishing. Talking directly with faculty may give valuable information about what they read and where they publish. A less direct method is to search Inspec or Compendex by faculty name to determine past publication patterns, or search by author affiliation. 

Conference papers are indexed by certain databases, particularly Engineering Village 2 Compendex and Inspec. 

Journals are important publications for engineers, researchers, and students in the field of industrial and manufacturing engineering because they present the results of current research, methods, and developments. Articles published in journals are usually indexed in databases like Compendex, Inspec, and Ergonomics Abstracts. Most articles are now available in electronic format, but some pre-1990s journals are still only in paper form. The list of titles included in this section is a sample of important journals in this area. This list is limited to scholarly publications and, therefore, does not include trade publications.
