The most comprehensive index to the world s engineering literature provides very good coverage of the journal and conference literature in aeronautical and aerospace engineering. Available online as the Compendex database (see Chapter 2, this volume). 

Inspec http //www.theiet.org/ (accessed July 26, 2010) (1898-). London lET. Inspec is the combined electronic version of Physics Abstracts, Computer and Control Abstracts and Electrical and Electronics Abstracts. This has been the standard database in the field of EE and, with the extension of the back file to 1898, it encompasses the very earliest EE literature. No literature search in the field would be complete without consulting this resource and, in most cases, this database would be the first choice for a literature search. However, Inspec does not provide blanket coverage of all EE resources and, in order to conduct a comprehensive search, it is necessary to use it in conjunction with Compendex. Several vendors offer subscription and/or pay-as-you-go access to the database. 

Conference papers are indexed by certain databases, particularly Engineering Village 2 Compendex and Inspec. 

Journals are important publications for engineers, researchers, and students in the field of industrial and manufacturing engineering because they present the results of current research, methods, and developments. Articles published in journals are usually indexed in databases like Compendex, Inspec, and Ergonomics Abstracts. Most articles are now available in electronic format, but some pre-1990s journals are still only in paper form. The list of titles included in this section is a sample of important journals in this area. This list is limited to scholarly publications and, therefore, does not include trade publications. 

COMPENDEX is an engineering database with abstracts from over 2600 international journals, conference papers, and technical reports, dating from 1970 onward. Areas covered mechanical, civil, environmental, electrical, structural and process engineering, materials science, solid state physics and supCTconductivity, bioengineering, energy, chemical engineering, optics, air and water pollution, solid waste management, hazardous waste, road transportation, and transportation safety.
