Safety committees can be an excellent form of joint consultation provided they are well-organised. Management commitment to ensuring that committee decisions are implemented, however, is essential if the committee is to have credibility with the workforce and achieve its objectives. [Pg.176]

The ASME Code is written by a large committee and many subcommittees, composed of engineers appointed by the ASME. The Code Committee meets regularly to review the code and consider requests for its revision, inter pretation, or extension. Interpretation and extension are accomplished through code cases. The decisions are piibhshed in Mechanical Engineering. Code cases are also mailed to those who subscribe to the service. A typical code case might be the approval of the use of a metal which is not presently on the list of approved code materials. Inquiries relative to code cases should be addressed to the secretary of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Committee, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, New York. [Pg.1022]

Until a few years ago, there was no widely accepted standard for a voltage endurance test of the rotating machines. Different agencies had adopted different practices on different assumptions, pending a final decision by the lEC working committee TC-2 of lEC 60034-15. The committee submitted its report in 1988 and the following test data, which are now universally adopted, are based on this report. [Pg.261]

Logically, a representative carries the wishes of the people they represent to a place where decisions are taken that affect them - this is the case for Members of Parliament, Union Representatives, Committee Members, etc. The note would appear to address the need for representation outside the business. Inside the business, the representative represents management to the workforce but not in the same sense. The person carries the wishes of management (i.e. the policies) to the workforce so that the workforce makes decisions that take into account the wishes of management. [Pg.131]

Letters of intent can be the cause of problems, and there are varying views as to their validity. These are sent in advance of contractual documents, being signed because either the documents are not fully prepared or a decision has not yet been confirmed. For example, in local government a bid may have been accepted by a committee but needs ratification by the full council, which can be up to six weeks later. It is rare for a council to overturn a decision made by a committee, but it does happen. In an attempt to expedite matters, it is common policy to... [Pg.91]

The Scientific Committees are key to the functioning of the agency. They are the scientific decision-making component responsible for delivering opinions and advice on any issue relating to medicines. There are currently five committees, each focussed on different areas ... [Pg.30]

This project has been presented to the management committee of Vinyl 2010 (the organisation that manages the EU PVC industries recycling initiatives) with a request for financial support to scale-up to commercial size. A decision should be taken by the end of 2002, taking into account the total available quantities of PVC waste and the development of alternatives technologies in Denmark. [Pg.16]

The consumer movement, particularly the Consumers Health Fomm, also has considerable political influence. As a result of political pressure exerted by HIV/AIDS pressure groups and industry, the DRA was reviewed, new legislation introduced and new committees established to ensure that the regulatory authority responded more efficiently to public and political needs. Professional associations, especially the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, have traditionally played an active role in decisions related to pharmaceutical regulation. The Australian Pharmaceutical Advisory Council was established by the Australian Government to advise the Commonwealth Minister for Health on pharmaceutical policy. [Pg.19]

In Cuba, Tunisia and Venezuela, the dmg regulatory authorities are departments within the executive branch, the Ministry of Health, which possesses decision-making powers regarding dmg regulation. Expert committees are consulted on technical issues, rather than as decision-making bodies. Under this stmcture, the superior agency (the Ministry of Health) theoretically has the authority to alter a decision if it chooses to do so. [Pg.41]

All the countries use external experts or committees to help with the assessment of applications. However, their number and area of expertise differ from country to country. In most countries, the experts merely provide advice, while in some they also have a decision-making role. From the point of view of management, it would be... [Pg.79]

In Estonia, however, as many as 17% of the applications are withdrawn Ifom the process. Rejection rates are highest in Venezuela and Malaysia (30% and 29%, respectively). In both countries, withdrawal rates are small (0% and 3%, respectively). In Australia in particular, the number of applications withdrawn before a final decision has increased significantly in the past four years. This increase in withdrawals is probably a result of the way in which the registration system now operates, with a proposed decision to reject being made by the Delegate, prior to obtaining formal advice from the Australian Dmg Evaluation Committee. [Pg.82]
