This step may be performed by using a rotary evaporator connected to a water aspirator, with a drying column inserted between the aspirator and the evaporator. The rotary evaporator Is vented with nitrogen once the desired final volume is reached.

The plant is equipped with an Eurotherm T100 process control system. 21 control circuits, 44 temperature signals, 4 level indications, 4 pressure signals, 4 mass flow indications, 4 pumps and 12 control valves are processed, regulated and indicated with a computer system. Samples can be withdrawn from all important pipes and all column insertion sections.

Surface silylation of solid supports, glass columns, inserts, or even glass-wool spacers and glassware for the sake of surface deactivation remains highly recommended in biochemical GC. An alternative approach to surface deactivation is the method of Aue et al. [93], in which thermal treatment of polymer-coated supports results in a partial linkage of the macromolecule to the surface. This approach has been successfully employed with both packed and capillary columns. 

The eluant pH is restricted to between 3 and 8 pH units to avoid damage to the silica matrix. This deleterious effect can be minimised by passing the eluant through a pre-column inserted between pump and injector, thus pre-saturating the eluant with silica. Almost all the available silicas whether spherical or irregular are very similar in terms of separation efficiency and retentive properties. 

Introduce the slurry slowly down the inside of the column and rinse any resin particles from the inner wall of the column into the slurry and add fresh solvent to fill up the column. Insert the top adapter in the top position. Prevent air entrapment. Let the resin settle just a few (2-5) centimeters and lower the top frit (process top valve open) into the buffer (Figures 4.25a and 4.26a). Make sure that the column tube and entire length of the inlet tubing is full of liquid and free of air. 

On the other hand, these calculations indicate that the treatment of more than 10 000 samples per year per machine is unrealistic, as periods during which the equipment is out of commission for the exchange of columns, inserts and septa and for all the many and various types of maintenance work are unavoidable. Continuing to use the above example, if more than 10 000 measurements per year are required in die field of drug screening, the calculation shows that the procurement of a second GC/MS must be considered. 

It is clear from equation (53) that the constant (q>) determines only the magnitude of (0), but the constant (4)) and f(v) control the shape of the temperature profile. ((])) and f(v) are the source of the curiously shaped peaks produced by the detector. The constant (( )) is the heat loss factor of the cell. It should be noted that the magnitude of f(v) will depend on the value of (Ca), the ratio of the effective volume of the cell to the plate volume of the column. Inserting the full expression for f(v) in equation (53),... 

Suggest revamp actions, as for example change the catalyst by a more selective one, replace obsolete internals of distillation columns, insert new separation units, etc. 

Separations achieved with a dedicated gas chromatograph for fast GC (flash gas chromatograph) with a much shorter length of capillary column inserted into a resistively heated column jacket... 

Insert 6 to 12 strands of silvered wire, a small mesh screen or stainless steel frit inside one end of the tube. Slowly add 0.14 to 0.15 g of packing material to the column and gently vibrate to settle the packing inside the column. Insert silvered wire, mesh screen, or frit to the other end of the tube to prevent the packing material from falling. When strands of wire are used to retain the packing material inside the column, leave 6.0 mm (0.25 in.) of space at the top of the column.
