Besides appHcation as heat-resistant molding powders for electronic and other appHcations, DAIP copolymers have been proposed for optical apphcations. Lenses of high impact resistance contain 50% DAIP, 20% benzyl methacrylate, and larger amounts of CR-39 (59). A lens of refractive index 71- = 1.569 andlow dispersion can be cast from phenyl methacrylate, DAIP, and isopropyl peroxide (60). Lenses of better impact properties can be obtained by modifying DAIP with aHyl benzoate (61). [Pg.85]

To speed up the molding process, the required amount of molding powder or granules is often pressed iato a block and prewarmed before placing it ia the mold. Rapid and uniform heating is accompHshed ia a high frequency preheater essentially an iadustrial microwave oven. The prewarmed block is then transferred to the hot mold, pressed iato shape, and cured. [Pg.327]

Specifications for molding powders vary widely, from a No. 8 to a No. 60 sieve product generally the coarser products are No. 12, 14, or 20 sieve material. Specifications usually prescribe a minimum of fines (below No. 100 and No. 200 sieve). Molding powders are produced with hammer mills, either of the screen type or equipped with air classifiers. [Pg.1873]

Resol resins thermoset on heating and are used for adhesives. Novolacs require a further source of formaldehyde in the form of hexamethylenetetramine to produce molding powders. Phenolic moldings are resistant to heat, chemicals, and moisture with good electrical and heat insulation qualities. Complex phenols from, e.g., cashew-nut shell liquid, are used in making brake... [Pg.278]

PTFE is produced by the free radical polymerization process. While it has outstanding thermal and corrosive resistance, it is a marginal engineering material because it is not easily machinable. PTFE has low tensile strength, resistance to wear, and low creep resistance. Molding powders are processed by press and sinter methods used in powder metallurgy. It can also be extruded using ram extruder techniques. [Pg.190]
