Cold rolling compositions

Genamid 250 and Versamid 115 were obtained from Henkel Company. The steel substrates used were cold rolled steel and Bonderite 40 phosphated steel from Parker. The composite was sheet molding compound from Rockwell. [Pg.195]

In a specific example of adhesive bonds between cold rolled steel and SMC adherends (Table II) an adhesive based on hydrolysis resistant epoxy chemistry (i.e., adhesive E) was compared with an adhesive based on hydrolysis prone urethane chemistry (i.e., adhesive C) in composite to cold rolled steel bonds. After corrosion testing, a significant difference in both retention of initial bond strength and locus of failure was observed. For bonds prepared with adhesive E, little if any reduction of the initial bond strength was observed after corrosion testing. The locus of failure for both the tested and untested bonds was largely in the... [Pg.197]

Table 2 gives a price scale with reference to carbon steel. The price of steel is very variable depending on country, process, shape, etc. Example of mean prices on the period 1997-2001 recorded by the inspection of several Internet sites are 250/350 /tonne for hot rolled sheets, 350/500 /tone for cold rolled sheets, 400 /tonne for coiled plates. A reasonable composite steel price for process industries purposes would be about 400 /tonne. [Pg.687]

In the example shown in Fig. 7, a thin film of plasma-polymerized trimethylsilane had been deposited on cold-rolled steel as a pretreatment for improved adhesion and corrosion [30]. The film thickness was determined by ellipsometry to be 500 A. The composition was characterized by AES, XPS, and TOFSIMS. AES gave information on the bulk composition, surface enrichment, and interfacial oxide (Fig. 7b). Note that the C/Si ratio of the bulk of the film, after equilibrium sputtering conditions have been reached, is approximately 3, i.e., identical to that of the monomer from which the film was... [Pg.397]

Coatings were applied to flat sheet metal substrates (cold rolled steel) and cured with ultraviolet light. After application, the coated metal was placed onto a moving conveyer line and exposed to U.V. radiation from an Ashdee Unit source (2 lamps of 2,000 Watts each) placed 5 to 7 inches from the coating. Exposure time was 9 seconds. (Line speeds of 50 to 100 ft. per minute.) The coating compositions were also applied onto a metal sheet substrate... [Pg.366]

Samples are taken from the melt and analyzed, and the chemical composition of the steel can, if necessary, be modified by the addition of alloying metals in the converter or in the ladle afterwards. Later, the desired molten metal is either cast into ingots or continually cast into a slab or billet form. Then the material is hot-rolled or forged into its final form. Some material receives cold rolling to further reduce the thickness as in sheets or drawn into smaller diameters as in rods and wire. Most stainless steels receive a final annealing and acid pickling in order to remove furnace scale from annealing, and they help to promote the passive surface film that naturally occurs. [Pg.108]

Tests have been ran to broaden this database to include the behavior of TP composites against several metals with different surface finishes. Also, wear factors for the metal surfaces, caused by the rubbing of plastic composites, have been studied. Certain metals chosen for stationary counterface materials were cold-rolled 1141 steel, 304 and 440 stainless steel, 70/30 brass, 2024 aluminum alloy, and phosphor bronze (ICI-LNP) [323]. [Pg.247]

Chemistry. The composition of Beta-21S is based on the objective of obtaining a cold roUable, strip-producible alloy for economical processing into foil form. The key to processing an alloy to foil form is cold rolling of strip product. If an alloy cannot be cold rolled as strip, a hot process on a hand-mill using cover sheets to form packs for heat retention is the only other viable option. Although the pack process offers the opportunity to crossroll to minimize texture, it is nonetheless labor intensive and inherently a lower yield process. [Pg.553]
