Slurry method

To reduce labor and other expenses, most sintered nickel plaques are produced by a wet-slurry method. A nickel slurry is prepared by mixing a low density nickel powder with a viscous aqueous solution such as carboxymethylceUulose [9004-42-6] (CMC). Pure nickel gau2e, a nickel-plated gau2e, or a nickel-plated perforated steel strip is continuously carried through a container filled with the nickel paste and sintering is done in a hori2ontal furnace. The time of the sinter in the furnace is ca 10—20 min. [Pg.548]

Column Chromatography. The substances to be purified are usually placed on the top of the column and the solvent is run down the column. Fractions are collected and checked for compounds using TLC (UV and/or other means of visualisation). The adsorbent for chromatography can be packed dry and solvents to be used for chromatography are used to equilibrate the adsorbent by flushing the column several times until equilibration is achieved. Alternatively, the column containing the adsorbent is packed wet (slurry method) and pressure is applied at the top of the column until the column is well packed (i.e. the adsorbent is settled). [Pg.19]

Using the slurry-method and GF-AAS in Cu, Cr, Fe and Pb were determined in various pine needle samples, using NIST SRM 1575 Pine needles slurry as calibrant. Comparison of the obtained results showed good agreement with wet ashing (Carrion et al. 1988). [Pg.140]

Sn/V/Nb/Sb/0 catalysts were prepared with the co-precipitahon technique, developed for the synthesis of ratile Sn02-based systems claimed by Rhodia (8). The preparation involved the dissoluhon of SnCl45H20, VO(acac)2, SbCh and NbCls in absolute ethanol, and by dropping the soluhon into a buffered aqueous soluhon maintained at pH 7. The precipitate obtained was separated from the liquid by filtrahon. The solid was then dried at 120°C and calcined in air at 700°C for 3 hours. The V/Sb/0 catalyst was prepared by means of the slurry method that consists in a redox reachon between Sb203 and NH4VO3 in water medium, for 18h at 95°C. The... [Pg.358]

Another method of manufacturing polypropylene employs the liquid monomer as the polymerization solvent. This process, known as the liquid propylene or bulk-phase process, has a major advantage over the slurry method in that the concentration of the monomer is extremely high. The high concentration increases the rate of the reaction relative to that seen... [Pg.308]

Reactants and reagents can be conveniently loaded into the dry zeolite by adsorption. This can be accomplished by intimately mixing the solid or liquid reactant and the powdered zeolite, by absorption from the gas phase, or by diffusion in a solvent slurry containing the zeolite and dissolved reactant. The choice of solvent for the slurry method is critical. It must be volatile enough to be removable at a pressure and temperature that does not result in evacuation of the reactant or its decomposition. In addition, the reactant must have a greater affinity for the interior of the zeolite than for the slurry solvent itself. The lack of affinity for the interior of the zeolite is an acute problem for non-polar hydrocarbons that lack binding sites for the intrazeolitic cations. The use of fluorocarbons such as perfluorohexane as slurry solvents takes advantage of the fluorophobicity of many hydrocarbons and has alleviated this problem to some extent.29... [Pg.231]

Three processes are used commercially to make linear polyethylene-solution, slurry, and gas phase. All are called low-pressure processes (< 50 atm) to distinguish them from the free radical or high-pressure process that makes highly branched polyethylene. In the solution mode a hydrocarbon solvent at 125-170°C dissolves the polymer as it forms. The reaction usually slows as the solution becomes viscous because it becomes difficult to stir ethylene into the liquid phase. In contrast, The slurry process uses a poor solvent and low temperature (60-110°C) to prevent dissolving or even swelling of the polymer. Each catalyst particle creates a polymer particle several thousand times larger than itself. There is no viscosity limitation in the slurry method the diluent serves to transfer heat and to keep the catalyst in contact with ethylene and other reactants. Finally, the gas-phase process is much like the slurry method in that polymer particles are formed at similar temperatures. A bed of catalyst/polymer is fluidized by circulating ethylene, which also serves as a coolant. [Pg.59]

It was found that surfaces of grains of proplnt exhibited contamination by micro-organisms which ranged in shape from spheres and cylinders to rods and squares. Penetration of these bacteria beyond the surface was also apparent. The contamination probably resulted from bacteria encountered in water used during manuf of M8 by the slurry method Refsi l)T.Bokorny, ChemZtg 20,985-6(1896) 2)B.Malenkovic,MitteilGegenstande-Artil-Genie-wesen 1907,599-615 CA 1,2411(1907) 3)B. [Pg.3]

A possible way to increase the accuracy of this immersion approach is to use the slurry method and to analyse a weighed sample of the slurry in the bottom of the test-tube, instead of analysing the supernatant (Nunn etal., 1981). One then simply makes use of Equation (5.49), the operational expression of the relative surface excess of the solute with respect to the solvent. Here n1 and n2 are the total amounts of solute and solvent in the sample of slurry (either adsorbed or in solution) and c[ and c their concentrations in the solution. If one uses a liquid-solid ratio large enough to avoid any measurable change in concentration on adsorption, then c and c are simply the concentrations in the starting solution. The measurement is accurate provided the quantitative analysis of the slurry, which involves measuring the total amounts of 2 and 1... [Pg.150]
