In Los Alamos National Labs (LANL), a four-stage Prox reactor with four oxygen (from air) inlets and five heat exchangers to finely control the temperature in each unit was demonstrated, and the CO concentration was abated to very low with minor parasitic hydrogen consumption. However, to control the temperature by this method is still very limited, and usually, the mixture of oxygen and reformate is not good enough. [Pg.352]

Narayanan and coworkers by measuring the COj content in the cathode exit stream with an on-line CO2 analyzer, and later by researchers at Los Alamos National Lab. It was observed that the crossover rate decreases with increasing current density, and increases with temperature. The trend of decreasing crossover at higher current densities was explained as arising from the increased utilization of methanol at the anode. When the methanol crossover rate is expressed as a parasitic crossover current density, values corresponding to 200 mA/cm and 350 mA/cm were observed at 60 C and 90 °C, respectively, when compared at an applied current density of 150 mA/cm. Thus, it is readily apparent that with Nafion 117-based systems the methanol... [Pg.52]

Supercritical CO2 replaces hazardous dry-cleaning chemicals such as perchloroethylene. Through collaboration with Los Alamos National Lab (operated by Bechtel National, University of California BWX Teclmologies 8s. Washington Group International for the Department of Energy s National Nuclear Security Administration), Los Alamos has developed dense-phase carbon dioxide. It is used instead of solvents in the food industry to extract dyes from red chilies and caffeine from coffee. The extracted chemicals are recovered when the pressure is reduced. [Pg.252]

Besides Debe s electrode, Tang et al. [61] produeed a carbon nanotube thin film with ultra-low Pt loading (Pt on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)) through a polycarbonate filtration membrane. Compared to the results presented by both Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) and 3M Corporation, as shown in Figure 19.12, this thin-film cathode catalyst layer with a loading of 6 pg Pt/cm could give a mass activity of 250 A/mg Pt, which is the highest activity reported so far. [Pg.906]
