Good was appointed to the National Science Board by President Carter in 1980 and again by President Reagan in 1986. She was chairman of that board from 1988 until 1991, when she received an appointment from President Bush to become a member of the President s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). Good also served on the boards of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cincinnati Milacron, and Ameritech. She was also a member of the National Advisory Board for the State of Arkansas. 

Composite formulations were prepared as follows The straw samples as received from INEEL were ground to 0.69 mm in a hammer mill and oven dried to 1.1% moisture. The dried straw samples were then blended with various amounts of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), lubricants, and maleated polyethylene blends (MAPE) (see Table 2). The mixed formulations were then extruded with a 35-mm Cincinnati Milacron Model CMT 35 counterrotating conical twin screw extruder (Cincinnati Milacron, Batavia, OH), which produced a 9.525 x 38.1 mm2 solid cross-section. Flexural strength, density, and water sorption were measured for the extruded samples according to ASTM Standard Methods (13,14). 

Counter-rotating twin screw extruders are used almost exclusively for the production of uPVC pipes, profiles and sheet because they treat material more gently than single screws. Parallel screw and conical twin screw extruders are compared. Cincinnati Milacron Austria introduced its Argos parallel twin screw extruders last year. These machines are intended to complement the company s Titan conical screw range. Coextrusion of foamed core pipes is also described.

With the exception of TPEPI, supplied by Arapahoe Chemical Company, Boulder, CO, all of the phosphonium compounds were supplied by Cincinnati Milacron, Reading, OH. The chemical structures of the various quaternary phosphonium compounds are shown in Table I. 

Antioxidant technology To indicate the oxidation and thermal stability of a variety of ZnDTP-containing and ashless anti-wear hydraulic fluids, TOST and Cincinnati Milacron data - both relevant tests for this type of fluid - have been compiled and summarised. Table 4.9, from both published [80, 81] and in-house results. The data show that oxidation resistance and thermal stability of the premium fluids, both ashless and stabilised ZnDTP, are comparable and clearly outperform the normal-grade fluids. The normal ashless grade at 0.4-0.5% additives is superior to the normal ZnDTP-based grade, especially for thermal stability, which may be due to the use of thermally unstable secondary ZnDTPs.

This technology is widely used and excellent machines are made by Cincinnati (formerly Cincinnati Milacron) and Ingersoll. It is possible to convert tape lay-up machines to fiber placement units by the addition of a suitable head for running tows, special software and hardware for heating control. Since the action of these machines is similar to fiber placement, they are discussed below.

Units. There is no uniform rating by the machinery manufacturers for clamp tonnage units nor is there a uniform use of nomenclature. One might see US. tons listed followed by KN and both are listed. Sometimes the multiplier is 10, so a 42 ton clamp will also show as 420KN. Other times a clamp will show 67 tons and 600KN which means a multiplier of 8.95 was used. Also, sometimes the US. tons are also given in metric eg, Cincinnati Milacron does this. The best conversion would be to rate in US. and metric tons with the US. tons being divided by 1.1 to yield metric tons. 

Scrapless Forming Process (91-94) that is being developed by Cincinnati Milacron. An advantage of the latter process is that roimd containers may be made from sqnare blanks cut from sheet without the trim scrap normally associated with sheet forming. 

In the United States Welding Engineers, Cincinnati Milacron, APV Chemical Machinery, carried out work on development of multi-screw extmders. An excellent review of the early development of twin-screw extmsion technology was published by White [1990,1992]. A short summary on mixing and extrusion history is given in Table 1.
