Cidex

The transformation of cyclopentanol-cyclohexanone mixture was carried out in a fixed-bed reactor at 200°C and 250°C under atmospheric pressure and in the presence of nitrogen (nitrogen/reactant molar ratio = 4). The reactant was an equimolar mixture of cyclopentanol and cyclohexanone. The reaction products were analyzed on line by GC (VARIAN 3400 chromatograph, equipped with a SGE CIDEX B 25 m x 0.22 mm column and a flame ionization detector). The deactivation profile was obtained by analyzing reaction effluent for various times-on-stream (TOS). [Pg.222]

Carboxylesterases are involved in resistance to ester-containing insecticides such as organophosphate, carbamate, and pyrethroid insecticides. Resistance to organophosphate insecticides caused by enhanced carboxylesterase activity has been demonstrated in numerous insects and mites, including the mosquito (Cidex tarsalis, Culex pipiens, and... [Pg.212]

Cross-resistance refers to a situation in which a strain that becomes resistant to one insecticide automatically develops resistance to other insecticides to which it has not been exposed. For example, selection of a strain of Spodoptera littoralis with fenvalerate resulted in a 33-fold increase in tolerance to fenvalerate. The resistant strain also showed resistance to other pyrethroids (11- to 36-fold) and DDT (lower than for the pyrethroids). Exposure of Cidex qninquefasciatus to fenitrothion resulted in the development of resistance to the carbamate insecticide propoxur. Similarly, selection of a housefly strain with permethrin resulted in a 600-fold increase in resistance to permethrin. The resistant strain also showed resistance to methomyl, DDT, dichlorvos, and naled (Hassall, 1990). [Pg.215]

Cidex is 2% acidic glutaraldehyde, a stable solution, but when activated (by means of buffering the solution with sodium bicarbonate to a pH of 7.5-8.0), it has a relatively strong irritant effect on the skin. When used as a hospital disinfectant, it is considered an occupational hazard (Hasen 1983). The patch-test concentration is 1% pet. Allergic reactions are uncommon (Nethercott et al. 1988). Cross-reaction with formaldehyde is possible. [Pg.467]

CIDEX OPA Solution (containing 0.55% ort/io-phthalaldehyde, OPA, 1) has become the preferred choice over glutaraldehyde (GTA, 2) as a high-level disinfectant for hospital instrument processing. [Pg.86]

The other, preferred new method is hydrogen peroxide oxidation. Hydrogen peroxide (at different concentrations) neutralizes CIDEX OPA Solution almost instantly at room temperature (based on color reaction of OPA with glycine). No color changes are detectable after neutralization. The neutralized solution passes the fish test (this becomes an important criterion if the neutralized solution goes to rivers or oceans). [Pg.93]
