Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disorder mostly occurring in reproductive-age women characterized by a growth of the endometrium outside the uterine cavity (Oral et al. 1997 Child et al. 2001). Explanations of how the tissue stains this abnormal placement are controversial, although the predominant theory is that retrograde menstruation is the cause (Oral et al. 1997 Child et al. 2001). Additional factors that maybe pivotal in the disease s pathogenesis include immunologic abnormalities, endometrial disorders, and peritoneal dysfunction (Oral et al. 1997 Child et al. 2001).

After kidney transplantation, 15 of 20 children tolerated tacrolimus after switching from ciclosporin for immunological reasons or adverse effects (609). The most frequent adverse effects were neuropsychological and behavioral symptoms in three children, ranging from anorexia nervosa-like symptoms, with weight loss, amenorrhea, depression, and school problems, to severe insomnia and in one child aggressive and anxious behavior. Only the last child was exposed to toxic tacrolimus blood concentrations. All the adverse effects were fully reversible after withdrawal. 

One boy who had been immunized shortly after birth developed ipsilateral axillary lymphoma at the age of 6 months. Microscopically the picture was typical of BCG histiocytosis. The child survived. The underlying immunological disturbance was considered to be a temporary derangement of T lymphocyte function (SEDA-8, 300) (85).

Despite important contributions of research into the cause of AD, the complicated genetic, environmental, and immunologic mechanisms that produce AD are not completely understood. The hereditary component of AD s etiology is particularly strong, as children with one affected parent have a 60% likelihood of having an atopic disease. Immunologic Immediate hypersensitivity to glucocorticoids is rare. To date, about 100 cases have been reported, mostly in adults who had anaphylaxis within several minutes of oral or intravenous administration. There has also been a report in a child [20 ].

Though EDCs can effect immunological responses, the most studied effects of EDCs are the reproductive and developmental ones. These, which include male and female reproductive disorders, trans-generational and developmental effects on the fetus in utero, and the developing child will be addressed further in the infertility and development chapters. The reader is referred to the epic work of Theo Colbom, Dianne Dumanoski, and John Peterson Myers, Our Stolen Future [15], to the aforanentioned WHO report [13] and to the literature [16,17] for review discussions of the subject. 

It was found that all bodily systems are affected by some lipophile/hydrophile mixtnres. These include the reproductive (infertility), nervous, digestive, skin, musculoskeletal, filtering organ, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, immunological, and endocrine systems. A developing fetus or young child (with an incompletely developed immune system) is particularly vulnerable to attack by chemical mixtures.
