Films, chemical interaction

The relinking (14) and self-healing film (3) theories require chemical interaction between the antiozonant and ozonized mbber. The evidence for these interactions is meager (35,36). Overall, there seems to be no clear evidence in the Hterature for PDA derivatives becoming attached to mbber chains as a result of ozone attack. Much fundamental work in this area remains to be done, however. It seems clear at this point that any antiozonant—mbber interaction must be much less important than the scavenging effect of the antiozonant. In summary, the scavenger model is beheved to be the principal mechanism of antiozonant action. Ozone—antiozonant reaction products form a surface film that provides additional protection (37). [Pg.238]

Another problem in the construction of tlrese devices, is that materials which do not play a direct part in the operation of the microchip must be introduced to ensure electrical contact between the elecuonic components, and to reduce the possibility of chemical interactions between the device components. The introduction of such materials usually requires an annealing phase in the construction of die device at a temperature as high as 600 K. As a result it is also most probable, especially in the case of the aluminium-silicon interface, that thin films of oxide exist between the various deposited films. Such a layer will act as a banier to inter-diffusion between the layers, and the transport of atoms from one layer to the next will be less than would be indicated by the chemical potential driving force. At pinholes in the AI2O3 layer, aluminium metal can reduce SiOa at isolated spots, and form the pits into the silicon which were observed in early devices. The introduction of a tlrin layer of platinum silicide between the silicon and aluminium layers reduces the pit formation. However, aluminium has a strong affinity for platinum, and so a layer of clrromium is placed between the silicide and aluminium to reduce the invasive interaction of aluminium. [Pg.220]

Film-free chemical interaction in which there is direct chemical reaction of a metal with its environment. The metal remains film-free and there is no transport of charge. [Pg.20]

It has been observed by Koleske et al. [76] that factors other than specific chemical interaction can influence adhesion measurements. They studied a film of mixed-chain-length fatty acid and found that the adhesion of the tip over the shorter chain was 20% larger than over the longer chain, despite the fact that both had the same CH3 terminating... [Pg.46]

PMo 12-polymer composite film catalyst [9]. This demonstrates that PM012 catalyst was not in a crystal state but in an amorphous-like state, indicating that PM012 catalyst was molecularly dispersed on the PS support via chemical interaction. As attempted in this work, it is believed that heteropolyanions (PMoi204o ) were strongly immobilized on the cationic sites of the PS bead as charge-compensating components. [Pg.299]

The UPD and anodic oxidation of Pb monolayers on tellurium was investigated also in acidic aqueous solutions of Pb(II) cations and various concentrations of halides (iodide, bromide, and chloride) [103]. The Te substrate was a 0.5 xm film electrodeposited in a previous step on polycrystalline Au from an acidic Te02 solution. Particular information on the time-frequency-potential variance of the electrochemical process was obtained by potentiodynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (PDEIS), as it was difficult to apply stationary techniques for accurate characterization, due to a tendency to chemical interaction between the Pb adatoms and the substrate on a time scale of minutes. The impedance... [Pg.178]

The new phenomenon discovered in these experiments consists in different chemical activity revealed by one and the same kind of adsorbed particles in contact with one and the same kind of molecules of the medium, but at different nature of the interface either interface of a solid (ZnO film) with a polar liquid or interface of the solid with vapours of the polar liquid. This difference is caused by the fact that in the case of contact of the film with an adsorbed layer (oxygen, alkyl radicals) with a polar liquid, the solvated ion-radicals O2 chemically interact with molecules of the solvent (see Chapter 3, Section 3.4). In the case where alkyl radicals are adsorbed on ZnO film, one can assume, by analogy with the case of adsorbed oxygen, that in the process of adsorption on ZnO, simple alkyl radicals from metalloorganic complexes of the type... [Pg.264]

A new large pit was constructed at the Agronomy-Agricultural Engineering Research Center with two thicknesses of 6-mil black polyethylene plastic film as a liner. More intensive research was conducted in 56 plastic mlniplts to evaluate chemical interactions, degradation, and biological activity (2). [Pg.29]

Compatibility of TATB PBX with Weapons Materials , PlastOtherMaterExplosProplntsSymp, IIIA (1976) CA 87,87227 (1977) [Reported is the use of Viton-A, Kel-F 800 and Estane 5702-F1 as a binder for TATB contg expl compns. Compatibility tests (the object of the study with stainless steel, V, polyamide film and several sealant/adhesives at 120° for 1 to 4 months revealed no definite reaction. However, it was concluded that the major cause of gas evoln and chemical interaction between expl and test materials is the presence of w]... [Pg.273]

In one dimensional diffusion experiments (e.g., starting with a thin film source of A on a B crystal surface) one often finds an exponential decrease in the A concentration at the far tail of the concentration profile. This behavior has been attributed to pipe diffusion along dislocation lines running perpendicular to the surface. Models have been introduced which assume a (constant) pipe radius, rp, inside which Dl = p-D, b and p denoting here bulk and dislocation respectively. P values of 103 have been obtained in this way. It is difficult to assess the validity of these observations. The model considerably simplifies the real situation. During diffusion annealing, the structure of the dislocation networks is likely to change because of self-stress (see Chapter 14) and chemical interactions. [Pg.48]

For the Spectra film, the blue-light sensitive sandwich has been radically altered by the utilization of thiazolidmc dye release. This required the creation of new molecules and a new dye-release mechanism involving only a minute quantity of silver. By utilizing this hybrid imaging system, chemical interaction and molecular cross talk between the red-, green-, and blue-sensitive sandwiches have been reduced, which results in greater color definition. [Pg.1292]

In the formation of SAMs, the film-forming molecules order themselves by chemical interaction with neighbouring molecules and with the substrate surface. This technique has been applied for a large variety of modifier/substrate combinations. Various sulphur compounds, like alkanethiols and (di)sulfides have been deposited on metals such as silver, copper and gold isocyanides on platinum and carboxylic acids on aluminum oxide and silver oxide.75 Alkyltrichlorosilanes have been deposited on gold, mica, aluminum, tin oxide and silicon oxide. The latter combination is of interest here. [Pg.181]
