CAIA - South Africa Chemical and Allied Industries Association... 

EMS Sasol is a member of the CAIA (Chemical and Allied Industries Association) of South Africa. The Oil, Chemical Industries, Synthetic Fuels and Mining Explosives divisions have signed up to Responsible Care , but the remainder are stated to apply it internally. Compared to CAIA as a whole, Sasol is much further advanced in implementing the six Resonsible Care management practice standards.

Make no mistake about it - air pollution abatement, especially based upon end-of-pipe treatment technologies is expensive. Not too long ago the prevailing attitude among industry stakeholders was that air pollution control was simply a part of the cost of doing business, and that add-on costs associated with compliance simply had to be passed on to the consumer s purchase price for products. With the intensity of international competition in the chemical and allied industries, this philosophy simply does not cut it anymore.

Regulators will have access to data published by industrial associations. This information allows regulators to supplement their data and to make decisions on how to focus their efforts to improve process safety in the chemical and allied processing industries.
