Ceresin wax

There are three sources of ceresine waxes natural mineral (ozocerite), petroleum refining (petroleum ceresin) and lignite refining (cerasin). 

The waxes consist of both cyclic and paraffin hydrocarbons. At similar melting points, the waxes have a much higher molecular weight than paraffin waxes and are less stable. Ceresine waxes have a very delicate crystalline structure, with fine needle or short plate crystals. Properly constituted blends of ceresine and paraffin waxes have a dense microcrystalline structure.

Anhydrous hydrofluoric acid is so hygroscopic that H. Moissan said that he found it could be kept in the anhydrous condition only with the greatest difficulty. G. Gore, and T. E. Thorpe and F. J. Hambly recommended keeping anhydrous acid in platinum bottles with a ground platinum plate sealed with paraffin wax, and held in place by a elamp. This plan is too expensive for ordinary work, and ceresine wax bottles are generally used. For transport, the commercial acid is bottled and sealed in lead, guttapercha, paraffin, or ceresine wax vessels. The acid attacks vulcanized caoutchouc.5... 

The response of pyrolytic graphite electrodes depends on whether the orientation is edge plane or basal plane [102]. Spectral grade graphite impregnated with Ceresin wax or paraffin wax under vacuum can also be used. 

A dispersion of graphite in ceresin wax has been suggested as a way to prepare an electrode suitable for use in nonaqueous solvents. The hot paste is tamped into a Teflon tube and allowed to solidify. No pretreatment is necessary, and the surface can be renewed by wiping with cellulose tissue. 

Bullet lubricants frequently contain mixtures of some of the following beeswax, petroleum jelly, sheep tallow, carnauba wax, molybdenum disulfide, lithium base grease, ceresin wax, powdered graphite, paraffin wax, Alox compound, and Zokorite. The mixture may be dissolved or suspended in a fast-drying solvent or applied directly while hot. 

Paraffin serves to impregnate explosive cartridges against moisture. The technical product may contain ceresin, wax, or fat. 

Ozokerite and Ceresin Waxes. Ozokerite wax [8001-75-0] was a product of Poland, Austria, and in the former USSR where it was mined. Tme ozokerite no longer seems to be an article of commerce, and has been replaced with blends of petroleum-derived paraffin and microcrystalline waxes. These blends are designed to meet the specific physical properties requited by the appHcation involved. 

Ceresin wax [8001-75-0] originally was a refined and bleached ozokerite wax, but now is a paraffin wax of very narrow molecular weight distribution or blend of petroleum waxes. 

Povidone can also be used as a hydrophilic component or pore former in preparations that contain sustained-release auxiliaries like polyvinyl acetate, cellulose derivatives like HPMC [490, 509, 660], alginate [461], cetylacohol [600], polylactic acid [5o6],Gelucire [510],polyvinyl alcohol [522],ceresine wax [523], stearic acid [606] or methacrylate copolymers [491] to control or regulate the release of active substances, as binders and/or sometimes as plasticizers. They can also be extruded together with the active substance in melted stearyl alcohol and filled into hard gelatin capsules to achieve the same effect [471]. Ocular delivery systems are also described [598]. 

Only a poor yield is thus obtained. The residue left after lixiviation is a black mass, possessing powerful decolorising properties it is used for decolorising paraffin and ceresin wax. In fact, the manufacture of the animal black charcoal is at present the main object of the industry. 

Melt beeswax, ceresin wax, and mineral oil and strain into ointment mixing tub at 95°C.
