Base-plate wax compositions are generally regarded as trade secrets. A substantial percentage of paraffin is usually present, probably 50—80 wt %. Beeswax [8012-89-3] camauba wax [8015-86-9] ceresin, microcrystalline waxes, Acrawax C (Glyco Products Co. Inc.), mastic gum, rosin [8050-09-7] and synthetic resins may make up the balance of the formulation. Base-plate waxes are generally sold in sheet form about 1.3 mm thick, 75 mm wide, and 140 mm long. [Pg.480]

The compositions of sheet and shape waxes are also trade secrets. However, they are blends of various proportions of paraffin, microcrystalline waxes, camauba wax, ceresin, beeswax, gum dammar, mastic gum, and possibly other resins. Sheet waxes are marketed in square sheets approximately 80 by 90 mm. Various thicknesses are available from 32 gauge (0.5 mm) to 14 gauge (1.63 mm). [Pg.480]

Study waxes ie, waxes for carving, are useflil in the study and modeling of tooth forms and the teaching of anatomical detail. Carving wax compositions include paraffin, ceresin, ozokerite, camauba wax, montan waxes, and Acrawax C. Fillers and pigments may be added. [Pg.480]

Stearic acid and metal stearates such as calcium stearate are generally used as lubricants at a rate of about 1-3% on the total compound. Waxes such as camauba and ceresin or oils such as castor oil may also be used for this purpose. [Pg.647]

Ozocarite or Ozokerite (Mineral Wax, Fossil Wax, Native Paraffin), In purified form known as Ceresine Wax (see under Waxes). Waxlike hydrocarbon mixt, yel brown to black or green, translucent when pure and having a greasy feel. D 0.85—0.95g/cc, mp 55—... [Pg.466]

Ceresine is the white end-product of the purification of the fossil wax ozokerite, which is found in Miocene lignite deposits at considerable depths, by the separation of foreign and resinous matter and decolorisation by active agents. It is harder than paraffin wax, and has linear and cyclic hydrocarbons with high molecular weight [2]. It is used for waterproofing and oil absorption. [Pg.12]

There are three sources of ceresine waxes natural mineral (ozocerite), petroleum refining (petroleum ceresin) and lignite refining (cerasin). [Pg.163]

The waxes consist of both cyclic and paraffin hydrocarbons. At similar melting points, the waxes have a much higher molecular weight than paraffin waxes and are less stable. Ceresine waxes have a very delicate crystalline structure, with fine needle or short plate crystals. Properly constituted blends of ceresine and paraffin waxes have a dense microcrystalline structure. [Pg.163]

Anhydrous hydrofluoric acid is so hygroscopic that H. Moissan said that he found it could be kept in the anhydrous condition only with the greatest difficulty. G. Gore, and T. E. Thorpe and F. J. Hambly recommended keeping anhydrous acid in platinum bottles with a ground platinum plate sealed with paraffin wax, and held in place by a elamp. This plan is too expensive for ordinary work, and ceresine wax bottles are generally used. For transport, the commercial acid is bottled and sealed in lead, guttapercha, paraffin, or ceresine wax vessels. The acid attacks vulcanized caoutchouc.5... [Pg.128]

The device consisted of a cardboard obturator, cardboard covers, a thick ring (consisting of a mixture of red lead, ceresin vaseline) and a gasket. The device was mounted at the base of projectile just before its loading. [Pg.757]

The response of pyrolytic graphite electrodes depends on whether the orientation is edge plane or basal plane [102]. Spectral grade graphite impregnated with Ceresin wax or paraffin wax under vacuum can also be used. [Pg.388]

OZOCERITE. Sometimes spelled ozokerite, this is a natural, brown to jet black mineral (paraffin) wax comprised mainly of hydrocarbons. The melting point is variable. The material is soluble in chloroform. When heated with sulfuric acid (20-30%) from 120-200°C, ozocerite yields ceresine. Sometimes called earth wax, fossil wax, mineral wax, and native paraffin. [Pg.1191]

Fatty Oil, etc.—Mixtures of colophony (or other resin, especially copal) with resinates, oleates and linseed oil are sold for the preparation of varnishes, and mixtures of colophony with mineral oils, resin oils, fatty oils, solid fats, paraffin wax, ceresine or wax for use as brewers pitch. For the recognition of such mixtures, the following tests may be made. [Pg.308]

Rubber is vulcanised by treatment with sulphur chloride or by heating with sulphur. In most cases, however, rubber articles are made, not of pure vulcanised rubber, but of the latter mixed with various other substances, organic and inorganic. The organic substances more commonly used are brown and white factis, fatty oils, oxidised oils, waxes, mineral oils, paraffin wax or ceresine, resin or resin oils, bitumens, tar, pitch, starch, and artificial dyes. Very many inorganic compounds may be added either as fillers or to give colour, e.g., talc, kaolin, asbestos, chalk, gypsum, lime. [Pg.325]

Various substances, such as sodium carbonate (especially with eosin), magnesium sulphate, dextrin, starch, glucose or sugar may be added as thickening or to adjust the tint, and others, such as fatty substances, fatty acids, paraffin wax or ceresine (in colours for fats and waxes), to facilitate the use for particular purposes. [Pg.438]
