Large capacity balances, centrifuges, and similar equipment are generally placed on a separate counter away from the benches. The size of this counter must be carefully estimated. There must also be room for equipment and supplies kept in the laboratory as opposed to the stockroom. Of course, space must also be allowed for a safety shower and eyewash station. [Pg.10]

Some of the first applications of SBC in medical applications were for drainage units. The units are clear to allow ease of reading fluid levels, and breakage resistant to contain fluids if the parts are dropped or impacted. Applications have expanded in other medical devices and diagnostic equipment, including yankaeurs, centrifuge tubes and medical films. Other application areas include safety needles and various respiratory care devices. [Pg.516]

Ancillary equipment, designed for at least 2.5 MPa (25 bar) meters and flow controls for pressurized ammonia feed and effluent streams centrifugal pumps for discharging into liquid ammonia supply piping and for liquid ammonia loading equipment for safe pressure relief for ammonia vapor and inerts (see Fig. 118 and [1268]). Design of pressure storage tanks and the related safety aspects are discussed in [1270]. [Pg.215]

Documentation will consist of standard publications on topics such as safe work practices, work permits, overviews of the processes, and the use of material safety data sheet (MSDS). This person will be given generic equipment training on issues such as how centrifugal pumps work, how to read a distributed control system (DCS) screen, and the internal operation of relief valves. [Pg.371]

The removal of dust particles, typically 1 to 1,000 microns in diameter, from gas streams (also called gas cleaning) is accomplished on an industrial scale by four main types of equipment (1) bag filters, (2) cyclones using centrifugal force, (3) electrostatic precipitators, and (4) venturi scrubbers using washing with a liquid. Reasons for dust collection include air-pollution control, elimination of safety and health hazards, recovery of a valuable product, improvement in the quality of other products, and reduction of equipment maintenance. Typical ranges of particle size that can be efficiently removed by each of the four methods are as follows ... [Pg.539]

Equipment is considered the primary barrier for protection of the employees. Items such as biosafety cabinets, safety centrifuges, enclosed containers, impervious work surfaces, autoclaves, foot-operated sinks, and other equipment specifically designed to prevent direct contact with infectious organisms or with aerosols must be available. Personal protective equipment can also be considered as an effective secondary barrier if engineering controls are not sufficient. These latter items can include, at minimum, a lab coat or wrap-around gown, possibly gloves, masks, or respirators, goggles, and head and foot covers. [Pg.623]

Safety Equipment Enclosed containers, biological safety cabinets, and personal protection equipment are the main kinds of safety equipment. The primary roles are containment and barriers. Safety containers prevent the release of unsafe substances during normal activities and operations. An example is a safety centrifuge cup. [Pg.378]
