Capsule integrity

The patient may or may not have symptoms from pupil distortion. Clinically, the pupil and anterior chamber should be eraluated before dilation. If the pupil is peaked at the first postoperative visit, the examiner may carefiilly examine with gonioscopy, looking for vitreous or iris extending to the wound. Presence of vitreous prolapse in the anterior chamber necessitates a thorough retinal eraluation early in the postoperative period, looking for secondary retinal breaks. lOL position and capsule integrity should be eraluated to further define the source of pupil distortion. [Pg.609]

The data, chart, and discussion points presented in this application section are based on several trials conducted at the PCS plant in Payson, AZ, ntilizing their pulsed combustion spray dryer technology. The trials were not specifically designed for this documentation, so some definitive protocols cannot be provided. However, we investigated how several parameters such as contact and exit temperatures (components of the dryer operating envelope), flow aid level, and percentage of feed solids affected capsule integrity as measured analytically and presented as % free core. [Pg.442]

Rao et al. [140] described a study using a commercial pH sensitive radio-telemetry capsule (RTC) to evaluate small bowel and colonic transit time in athletes with gastrointestinal symptoms. The RTC (type 7006 Remote Control Systems, London, UK) consists of a glass electrode with an integral reference cap and battery. RF transmissions from the capsule are detected by a solid-state receiver worn on the belt of the patient. The recorder samples the pH from the capsule at 6 second intervals for a period of 24 hours. They used pH changes as an indication of the pH capsule s movement. A sharp rise in pH from around pH 2 to pH 6 indicates that the capsule has moved into the duodenum from the stomach. Then the pH progressively rises to a plateau around pH 8, which indicates that the capsule has moved into the terminal ileum. Another commercially available wireless pH sensor (Bravo) from Medtronic Inc. has been used to measure esophageal pH for a period of 48 hours and it will be discussed later. [Pg.310]

Membranes pt precipitate, sol soluble complex, SC stable capsule with a polyanion interior to a polycation, SC stable capsule with a polycation interior to a polyanion, SM stable membrane but a capsule with structural integrity could not be produced, wm weak membrane. [Pg.23]

Step 4 Capsule Mechanical Stability. The mechanical stability of the membranes was assessed semi-quantitatively by applying a compressional force via a micrometer. While this method is not precise, it did permit us to assess if the capsules could withstand deformations and if they ruptured in a controlled or catastrophic manner. Another test which was selectively employed was to place capsules between microscope slides and measure the force required to compromise the integrity of the membrane. These tests measured the resistance of the weakest point of the membrane. For certain capsules a needle was used to probe the breaking strength of a local region of the membrane. [Pg.30]

Overall, the development of a robust formulation with scale-up potential for Phase II studies involves integration of physicochemical, biopharmaceutical, and technical considerations. Whether a rudimentary formulated capsule or a more robust formulation closer to the commercial form will be used in Phase II studies will depend on the company policy, material cost, the complexity of clinical design, and the development strategy. [Pg.37]

A capsule summary of the merits of the three kinds of corrective action can be made. The proportional action is rapid but has a permanent offset that increases as the action speeds up. The addition of integral action reduces or entirely eliminates the offset but has a more sluggish response. The further addition of derivative action speeds up the correction. The action of a three-mode PID controller can be made rapid and without offset. These effects are illustrated in Figure 3.3 for a process subjected to a unit step upset, in this case a change in the pressure of the control air. The ordinate is the ratio of the displacements of the response and upset from the set point. [Pg.41]

An important feature is film activation with micrometer precision by external stimulation with biofriendly near-IR light, which results in controlled release of film-embedded material [98,100], Laser activation of film-supported microcapsules shows remote release of encapsulated dextran by selective stimulation of the capsules with near-IR light (Fig. 6). Destruction of the HA/PLL film functionalized with gold nanoparticles occurs at irradiation with a light power of over 20 mW. Microcapsules modified with nanoparticles keep their integrity under the same conditions but become more permeable. [Pg.144]
