Calendaring

Preventive maintenance includes inspection, servicing and adjustment with the objective of preventing breakdown of equipment. This is appropriate for highly critical equipment where the cost of failure is high, or where failure implies a significant negative impact on safety or the environment. This form of maintenance can be scheduled on a calendar basis (e.g. every six months) or on a service hour basis (e.g. every 5,000 running hours). 

Servicing of items is a routinely scheduled activity which is managed in the same way as inspection, and the periods between services will depend on the design of fhe equipment. The periods may be set on a calendar basis (e.g. every 24 months) or on a service hours basis (e.g. every 10,000 operating hours).

The OSHA limits, regulations, and recommendations apply to in-plant air quaUty. Improperly filtered exhaust air may cause a plant to be in violation of the EPA standard, therefore these data should not be confused with the EPA limit for airborne lead, 1.5 fig lead/m, measured over a calendar quarter, which pertains to the exterior plant environment and emissions. The installation and proper maintenance of exhaust filtration systems enables most plants to comply with the EPA limits for airborne lead (see Lead compounds, industrial toxicology). 

Mechanical or coil bindings ate used for notebooks and calendars. The pages ate coUated and special drilling equipment is used to punch holes in the paper. Metal or plastic cods ate insetted. This durable binding allows finished books to lay flat. 

Time. Although the SI unit of time is the second, the minute, hour, day, and other calendar units may be necessary where time relates to calendar cycles. Automobile velocity is, for example, expressed in kilometers per hour. 

Basic dyestuffs are usually used for dyeing of unbleached pulp in mechanical pulp such as wrapping paper, kraft paper, box board, news, and other inexpensive packaging papers. Their strong and brilliant shades also make them suitable for calendar staining and surface coloring where lightfastness is not critical. 

Paper may also be colored by surface appHcation of dyestuff solutions after the paper has been formed and dried or partially dried by utilizing size-press addition, calendar staining, or coating operations on the paper machine. In addition, paper may be colored in off-machine processes by dip dyeings or absorption of dyestuff solution and subsequent drying, such as for decorative crepe papers. 

Typical applications for adjustable-voltage, adjustable-speed dc drives include winders, paper machines and auxiliaries, blending systems, feeders, extruders, calendars, machine tools, range and slasher drives, cranes, hoists, shovels and draghnes, and an almost unhmited variety of drives requiring the flexibility and efficiency possible with direct current.

Reporting is required to provide the public with information on the release of toxic chemicals from a facility. Facilities must report the quantities of both routine and accidental releases of listed chemicals, as well as the maximum amount of the listed chemical on-site during the calendar year and the amount contained in wastes transferred off-site. The report for any calendar year must be submitted on or before Ju ly 1 of the following year (e.g., the report for calendar year 1989, January-December, must be submitted on or before July 1,1990).

A ull-time employee," for purposes of section 313 reporting, is defined as 2,000 work hours per year. To determine the number of full-time employees atyourfacility, add up the hours worked by all employees during the calendar year, including contract employees and sales and support staff working at the facility and divide the total by 2,000 hours. In other words, if the total numter of hours worked by all employees is 20,000 hou rs or more, your facility meets the ten employee threshold. 

If the processing or otherwise use of similar articles results in a total release of less than 0.5 pound of a toxic chemical in a calendar year to any environmental media, EPA will allow this release quantity to be rounded to zero and the manufactured items remain exempt as articles. EPA requires facilties to round off and report all estimates to the nearest whole number. The 0.5 pound limit does not apply to each individual article, but applies to the sum of all releases from processing or use of like articles. 

Table II (see pages 40-48) contains the list of individual chemicals and categories of chemicals subject to 1988 calendar year reporting. Some of the chemicals listed in Table II have parenthetic qualifiers listed next to them. A chemical that is listed without a qualifier is subject to reporting in all forms in which it is manufactured, processed, and used.
