Bismuth tablets

Some bismuth tablets, a medication used to treat upset stomachs, contain 262 mg of bismuth subsalicylate, C7H5Bi04, per tablet. Assuming two tablets are digested, calculate the mass of bismuth consumed. [Pg.125]

Helidac—Each dose includes four tablets two round, chewable pink tablets (bismuth), one white... [Pg.484]

Bismuth subsalicylate—Immediately report any symptoms of salicylate toxicity (ringing in the ears, rapid respirations). Chew tablets thoroughly or dissolve them in the mouth. Do not swallow tablets whole Stools may become dark. This is normal and will disappear when tiie drug therapy is discontinued. Do not take this drug with aspirin or aspirin products. [Pg.484]

Bismuth subsalicylate 1,050 mg/30 mL Two tablets or 30 mL every 30 minutes to 1 hour... [Pg.275]

Pharmacokinetics BSS undergoes chemical dissociation in the Gl tract. Two BSS tablets yield 204 mg salicylate. Following ingestion, salicylate is absorbed, with greater than 90% recovered in the urine plasma levels are similar to levels achieved after a comparable dose of aspirin. Absorption of bismuth is negligible. [Pg.1422]

In spite of the lack of comparative trials, nonprescription bismuth compounds are widely used by patients for the nonspecific treatment of dyspepsia and acute diarrhea. Bismuth subsalicylate also is used for the prevention of traveler s diarrhea (30 ml or 2 tablets four times daily). [Pg.1317]

Preparation. Bismuth oxide (50 g.) is heated at 140-150° with acetic acid (300 ml.) and acetic anhydride (35 ml.) until it dissolves (1.5 2 hr.). The triacetate separates on cooling as glistening, colorless tablets (yield 90%). [Pg.40]

Adverse effects. Bismuth chelate, particularly as a liquid formulation, darkens the tongue, teeth and stool the effect is less likely with the tablet, which is thus more acceptable. There is little systemic absorption of bismuth from the chelated preparation, but bismuth is excreted by the kidney and it is prudent to avoid giving the drug to patients with impaired renal fimction. Urinary elimination continues for months after bismuth is discontinued. [Pg.629]

In a spectrophotometric method for the assay of glycobiarsol tablets (bismuth glycolylarsanilate) the sample is allowed to react with aqueous EDTA-disodium salt solution and the absorbance of the acidified solution is measured at 258 nm . [Pg.232]

A black tongue was reportedly caused by exogenous pigment in chewable bismuth subsahcylate tablets. [Pg.520]

A 17-year-old girl took 25 tablets of bismuth subcitrate 300 mg (total 7.5 g) in a suicide attempt and developed severe renal insufficiency (34). Renal biopsy showed evidence of acute tubular necrosis, with epithelial flattening, lumen widening, and atrophic changes in the convoluted tubules and mononuclear cell infiltration and edema in the interstitium. She was managed with hemodialysis and recovered. [Pg.521]

Hard paraffin is a mixture of solid hydrocarbons, also known as paraffin wax. It is used to stiffen ointments and creams and to coat capsules and tablets. At one time it was used for cosmetic enhancement, for example of the breasts, before silicone was introduced. It is also used in bismuth iodoform paraffin paste (BIPP) (see the monograph on bismuth). [Pg.2693]

Biopsy (rapid) urease HP urease generates ammonia, which causes a color change Test of choice at endoscopy >90% sensitive and specific easily performed rapid results (usually within 24 hours) tests for active HP infection antibiotics, bismuth, and PPIs may cause false-negative results test may yield false-negatives in active ulcer bleeding available as gel tests, paper tests, and tablets... [Pg.635]

Bismuth subsalicylate appears to have antisecretory, antiinflammatory, and antibacterial effects. As a nonprescription product, it is marketed for indigestion, relieving abdominal cramps, and controlling diarrhea, including traveler s diarrhea. Bismuth subsalicylate dosage strengths are 262-mg chewable tablets, 262 mg/5 mL liquid, and 524 mg/15 mL liquid. The usual adult dose is 2 tablets or 30 mL every 30 minutes to 1 hour up to 8 doses per day. [Pg.682]

Di-isobutylbromobismuthine, ( 4Hg)26i6r, is obtained by bromination of the tertiary bismuthme in a carbon dioxide atmosphere. It forms white crystalline tablets, which are easily soluble m alcohol, but soluble with difficulty in ether or petroleum. On exposure to the air or on heating it burns with formation of bismuth oxide. [Pg.269]

The client with an ileostomy is prescribed bismuth subcarbonate tablets orally four times a day. Which statement best describes the scientific rationale for administering this medication ... [Pg.136]

Neither 10 mL of Maalox (aluminium/magnesium hydroxide) nor 10 g of Solugastril (aluminium hydroxide with calcium carbonate) had any effect on the pharmacokinetics of a 4-mg lomoxicam film-coated tablet in 18 healthy fasted subjects. A later study similarly found no changes in the absorption or pharmacokinetics of a lomoxicam film-coated tablet given with bismuth chelate (tripotassium dicitratobismuthate) 120 mg twice daily. There would seem to be no reason for avoiding concurrent use. [Pg.142]
