Base formula

Standard 0.25 or 0.50 lb (227 g) tin coated cans are used for packaging Hquid with neutral and mildly alkaline base formulas polypropylene is used for acid—base removers. Steel and polypropylene dmms are used for industrial removers. Viscous removers are packaged in removable top containers. Dry caustic removers are packaged in bag-lined boxes or fiber dmms. 

Both EVA and PE-based adhesives are commonly used for bags. EVA-based formulas typically use lower levels of VA ( 18%) compared to case and carton adhesives to improve heat and blocking resistance. For both EVA and PE adhesives high levels of polymer (45-75%) are used for maximum strength. Adhesion is generally better and blocking slightly worse for EVA vs. PE.

Barger el al. took the view that the alkaloid contains two tryptamine residues, one represented in the degradation products by -methyltrypt-amine, and the other by methyl-3-carboline, and on this basis proposed formula (II). An extensive study was undertaken to determine if pesticide residues are present in any infant formula products (Gelardi and Mountford 1993). Milk- and soy-based formulas were analyzed, as was the water used to make the formula. It is generally not recommended to mix medications directly into the EN formula because of concerns that physical incompatibilities between the medications and the formula might lead to tube occlusion. There is some evidence that polymeric formulas are more likely to demonstrate physical incompatibility with medications compared with monomeric formulas, although most of the work in this area has used casein or caseinate-based formulas, and other proteins may act differently.38 The limited data currently available would indicate that acidic syrups and elixirs may be the worst for causing physical incompatibility when admixed with EN formulas. It has been postulated that this incompatibility is due to changes in the protein structure after exposure to acid or alcohol.38...

There have been occasional case-reports of infants with goiter and hypothyroidism associated with soy-based infant formula consumption (Tuohy, 2003). There has been one case control study, by Fort et al. (1990), which suggested a higher prevalence of soy-based formula feeding in infants with subsequent autoimmune thyroid disease. However, an alternative explanation may be a greater tendency for atopic infants (who may be more likely to be fed soy-based infant formulas) to have such antibodies. 

Formulae and names. Polynuclear inoiganic complexes may be so complex as to make accurate structure-based formulae and names too complicated to be useful. Compositional formulae and names may be adequate. These are discussed briefly first.
