Honors and Awards

The editors asked me to write a personal appreciation of Yngve Ohrn and I am grateful to Henry Kurtz, Vince Ortiz, and Jack Sabin for offering the opportunity. Scientific details of his works can be gathered from the bibliography and very likely from other contributions to this volume. Awards and honors have been left out by me here. A teacher s greatest satisfaction is the continuing respect from his former students and his peers, just as a parent derives his joy from his children s affection. [Pg.16]

His many scientific contributions and their industrial applications were recognized by the awards and honors he received. They include the American Chemical Society Kendall Award in Colloid and Surface Chemistry in 1973, the American Chemical Society Lubrizol Award in Petroleum Chemistry in 1983, and the Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist Award. The Robert L. Burwell Lectureship Award of the North American Catalysis Society was established in recognition of his outstanding contributions to catalysis. Professor Burwell was also known for the first short course in heterogeneous catalysis, which he taught for several years with Michel Boudart. [Pg.22]

Professor Jones s outstanding achievements in carbohydrate chemistry were recognized by his receipt of numerous awards and honors. In 1957, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, and, in 1959, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada. The Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry of the American Chemical Society presented him with the Claude S. Hudson Award in 1969. He was the 1975 recipient of the Anselme Payen Award from the Cellulose, Paper, and Textile Division. In March 1975, he was awarded the third Sir Norman Haworth Memorial Medal of The Chemical Society (London). [Pg.6]

Many awards and honors attest to Dr. Bovey s contributions to polymer science. He received the Union Carbide Award of the Minnesota Section of the ACS in 1962. In 1969 he received the Witco Award in Polymer Chemistry of the ACS and the Outstanding Achievement Award of the University of Minnesota. In 1974 he was awarded the Ford High Polymer Physics Prize of the American Physical Society. In 1978 he received the Nichols Medal Award of the New York Section of the ACS and delivered the Whitby Memorial Lectures at the University of Akron. His receipt in 1983 of the American Chemical Society Award in Applied Polymer Science, sponsored by Phillips Petroleum Company, was the occasion for the symposium in his honor on which this book is based. [Pg.3]

K. C. Nicolaou is Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, San Diego and is Chairman of the Department of Chemistry and holds the Aline W. and L. Skaggs Professorship of Chemical Biology and the Darlene Shiley Chair in Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute. His impact on chemistry, biology and medicine flows from his works in chemical synthesis and chemical biology described in hundreds of publications and 55 patents. For his contributions to research and education, he was elected a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Foreign Member of the Academy of Athens, Greece, and received numerous prizes, awards and honors. [Pg.650]

First, of course, prepare your curriculum vitae (CV, in short). Your CV presents your academic credentials, awards and honors, teaching experience, and mainly your research accomplishments.
