Most of the time, companies that misrepresent job openings do so unintentionally. When discussing a job opportunity with a potential employer, you can t stay on the abstract level. Early on, ask what the specific responsibilities of the job are. If the interviewer uses descriptive phrases like, "work in a low-stress environment" or "flexible work hours," ask the interviewer to define exactly what that means. Often, how an employer defines terms in its job descriptions is different from how the applicant defines them. This leads to misunderstandings. [Pg.249]

The particular bit extraction procedure described above might be useful from the standpoint of computational efficiency, particularly when applied block-by-block to a compressed JPEG or MPEG bit stream where random access may not be desirable or even possible. However, there is obviously a potential loss of robustness to malicious attacks intended to prevent watermark detection, but this is presumably often not an issue in scenarios where counterfeiting attacks are plausible after all, if a scheme is designed so that the presence of a watermark is required, there is little incentive to remove such a watermark. Furthermore, we note that there is clearly an application-defined trade-off here between efficiency and the robustness of the image dependency. More sophisticated and robust bit extraction procedures are possible, e.g. as described in [12]. The procedure described above was chosen instead for simplicity of exposition. [Pg.20]

The specific application defines the type of refractory material that can be utilized not only by property requirements but also by cost requirements. Each of the industries mentioned balances refractory performance with refractory cost. At times higher quality oxide refractories are abandoned in favor of less costly, but also less affective alternatives. As these industries continue to evolve to higher and higher production temperatures, acceptable lower cost alternatives will become increasingly less available. [Pg.93]

But what does it all really mean for us Quite a lot Feynman-like thinking became an accepted biomedical research topic by the mid-1990s. The National Institutes of Health were quick to see the medical applications, defining nanotechnology as the creation of functional devices, materials and systems through the control of matter of 1 to 100 nanometers, and the exploitation of novel properties and phenomena at the same scale. Here are some nano disciplines and nano products that are already becoming of interest to industry ... [Pg.492]

But we also know that if this happens to be a high-voltage application (defined here as an input greater than about 40 V) we may have to size our inductor according to the current limit, not the load current. That number is 5 A in this case. But very roughly so ... [Pg.456]

The essential principles of model quality assessment are mature and well documented and aim to provide confidence in the model s ability to predict the future. The principles are not always well-applied. The complexity of the machine learning techniques and the easy availability of large numbers of descriptors can seduce or confuse model builders and users into an over-optimistic assessment of a model s quality. Describing the relationship between prediction accuracy and precision, and the distance of future compounds from the model domain of applicability defines the central uncertainty. Many different descriptions of the domain of applicability have been used and a number have shown utility in relating the distance to the error in prediction with some datasets. Further work in this area is warranted and indeed recommended by the OECD guidelines in QSAR model validation. [Pg.264]

Enzymes are now produced for a variety of applications, going from bulk high tonnage processes in which the enzymes are considered as commodities (Hodgson 1994) to small-scale applications for refined uses and research where enzymes are considered specialties (Thomas et al. 2002). Level of production and type of application define the kind of process for its production. Specialty enzymes to be used in medicine and health-care products are usually required in high levels of purity... [Pg.60]

The behavior of an object is characterized by a collection of method specifications. A method specification is an application-defined declaration of the name and parameter types for a method that can be invoked on the object. By method invocation on an object o with identity i is meant, roughly, that the method call refers to i (thereby identifying o as the object to which the method is addressed) and is meant to be executed in the context of the current state of o using o s assigned behavior (where that execution may itself invoke methods defined on objects other than o). A method definition is an executable specification of a function or procedure. [Pg.113]

The efficiency of selected search algorithms with specific FTIR libraries of application-defined chemical systems was assessed. This investigation was done with a PC of 850 MB/33 MHz, Windows 3.1 and the SPECTACLE program of LabControl/Cologne. The libraries contained... [Pg.82]

I) In general—An applicable defined benefit plan shall be treated... [Pg.385]

I) In general— The term applicable plan amendment means an amendment to a defined benefit plan which has the effect of converting the plan to an applicable defined benefit plan. [Pg.386]

IV) Applicable defined benefit plan— For purposes of this subparagraph, the term applicable defined benefit plan has the meaning given such term by section 1053(f)(3) of this title [section 203(f)(3) of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974]. [Pg.386]

The purpose here has been to summarize in few lines the content of some contributions regarding warranty, gathering the information about model objectives, elements, schemes and comments, and tr5nng to highlight the most important features, strategy or explanations, etc. according to some practical applications defined by the different authors. From the development of this analysis is possible to extract those desirable steps for a modem and efficient warranty cost model. [Pg.1947]

The properties of a pigment depend on the medium in which it is applied. Quality and performance determinations of a pigment are therefore ideally carried out after having applied it in PP or other representative polymers. Furthermore, different requirements exist for fibers and plastics applications. Standardized test methods for plastics applications, defined by organizations such as ASTM, ISO and DIN, are available for the assessment of many pigment properties in PP. [Pg.594]

The concepts introduced in this chapter are used throughout chemistry. The applications of oxidation-reduction reactions appear throughout science and indus try. Two of these applications define the field of electrochemistry, which is the subject of the next chapter. [Pg.114]

Figure 2). The requirements to the parts in different applications define the level of, e.g., material performance, surface quality and thermo-mechanical properties. In this chapter, the particularly interesting group of thermoplastic composite materials applied to different automotive applications is presented in a variety of cases. These cases show that the special needs of the automotive industry can be coveted with the application of optimized LFT materials. [Pg.256]
