A few case histories of the use of rubber lining in anti-abrasive applications are given below. [Pg.37]

The anti-abrasive or anti-corrosive rubber linings are applied to the metal surface by adopting different kinds of bonding systems such as ebonite bonding, chemical adhesive bonding or self-vulcanising cement bonding. [Pg.39]

Thin solid films are layers that are present on a surface and have their top interface exposed to the environment Their extreme thinness in comparison with their lateral dimensions makes them systems that are infinite in two dimensions and are confined between an infinite gaseous phase and an infinite solid phase in the third one. As a result the global property of a layer is a combination of bulk and interface properties thus, one has to take into accoimt the thickness of the layer and the nature of the substrate when designing a coating for a specific application. Thin layers can be used for various purposes, depending on their surfece and/or bulk intrinsic properties. They can be dense, porous, patterned, multilayered, composite, and so on. Sol-gel films can be found in many different application domains such as optics (e.g., antireflection, self-cleaning, smart windows, and conductive transparent layers), electronics (e.g., microfabrication, low-/ , and self-assembled monolayers (SAMs)), protection (e.g., anticorrosion, anti-abrasion, and antistatic), and analysis (e.g., selective sensors). In most of these applications, the function must be identical on the whole surface of the substrate, and thus the thickness has to be controlled as much as possible and must be as uniform as possible. [Pg.277]

As of 1991 in the United States, OTC antiacne preparations may contain only a few active dmgs, for example, sulfur [7704-34-9] resorcinol acetate [102-29-4], resorcinol [108-46-3], salicylic acid [69-72-7], and some combinations (52). OTC anti-acne constituents maybe included in a variety of conventional cosmetic preparations, which then become OTC dmgs. These include lotions, creams, solutions, facial makeups, facial cleansers (including abrasive cleansers), and astringents. Products must contain the specified dmgs at the designated concentrations. Compositions of antiacne products have beenpubhshed (53). [Pg.297]

Silicone-based softener. Exhibits extreme resistance to yellowing at elevated temperature. Produces high increases in fabric and seam tear strength and abrasion resistance. Excellent softener for durable anti-stats, i.e., ASTONS. Facilitates high speed sewing by reducing needle severance problems. No build-up on equipment. [Pg.383]

Corrosion can take place uniformly over a rubbed surface or selectively at surface inclusions, grain boundaries and between dissimilar materials, etc. For the former case, a problem results only if corrosion is excessive. Limited corrosion is necessary for anti-wear and extreme pressure protection. Selective corrosion can weaken surface structures and initiate fatigue. Moreover, abrasion is implicated in the promotion of corrosive wear since abrasive particles remove soft protective, corrosively formed, reaction films. [Pg.81]
