Antiacne preparations

As of 1991 in the United States, OTC antiacne preparations may contain only a few active dmgs, for example, sulfur [7704-34-9] resorcinol acetate [102-29-4], resorcinol [108-46-3], salicylic acid [69-72-7], and some combinations (52). OTC anti-acne constituents maybe included in a variety of conventional cosmetic preparations, which then become OTC dmgs. These include lotions, creams, solutions, facial makeups, facial cleansers (including abrasive cleansers), and astringents. Products must contain the specified dmgs at the designated concentrations. Compositions of antiacne products have beenpubhshed (53). [Pg.297]

There are numerous pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications and formulations containing lactic acid, sodium and calcium lactates, and a range of acyl lactates. Calcium lactate is widely used for treating calcium deficiency. Lactates are added to many cosmetic products as moisturizers, emulsifiers, and stabilizers. Lactates have been promoted in skin care products for improving skin texture and appearance (Smith 1993). Ethyl lactate is an active ingredient in antiacne preparations (Datta et al. 1995). [Pg.29]

Experimental data together with the fact that resorcinolic lipids are nontoxic to higher animals, for example, they are tolerated by rats with an oral intake of 5g/kg ([204] and Kozubek, unpublished work) has resulted in the application of these compounds, as basic components in pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations. These preparations were found to be useful in the treatment of mouth and gingival infections, as antifungal fluids, in antiacne and also in hair restoration-lotion preparations [309,312,314]. [Pg.160]

Lactic acid and its salts act as inhibitors of bacterial spoilage and are used in the disinfection process (Datta and Henry, 2006). Polyactide may be also used as a fiber for clothing, carpets, and industrial applications. Lactic acid is also used for cosmetic and pharmaceutical purposes (eg, lotions preparation, dialysis, calcium deficiency therapy, and antiacne treatments, respectively). Long chain esters have been applied as moisturizers and solvents. [Pg.257]
