Analysts attractiveness

A number of computer software packages are available to the analyst to assist in the planning and execution of both method development and validation experiments. The attraction of these systems is that they can automate the validation process from planning the experiment to test execution to the presentation of the data in a final report form. 

The rapid development of HPLC is attributed to the fact that many analysts regard this technique as an alternative to GC or as a means of analysis when GC cannot be used. When it announced the acquisition of Solutia s resins, additives, and adhesives business in December 2002, UCB surprised analysts as well as employees, who were all expecting an acquisition in pharmaceuticals rather than in chemicals. The acquisition, however, was not completely opportunistic. UCB Chemical s business development department was continuously on the lookout for value-creating opportunities to give the business more critical mass in an industry where suppliers and customers were rapidly consolidating, which made a concentration wave in the resins industry inevitable over time. In this context, the acquisition was a clear no-regret move the acquisition price was attractive and could easily be financed by UCB, and there were many complementarities as well as synergies. In addition - and as clearly stated at the time - the increased scale created more options for the future, including a possible spin-off or divestment. 

It might seem counterintuitive, but the returns achieved by buyout firms depend crucially on public markets (e.g., Wright, M. Robbie, K. Gompers, P. Lerner, J. Clow, R. Smith, P.). Weak capital markets and the decline in valuations have made it extremely difficult to use IPOs as an exit channel. Structural impediments have also arisen. For example, an organization needs to be much larger now before it attracts analyst attention. This means that only businesses with financial critical mass are likely to have any chance of floating in Europe. The situation is different in North America where the market for mid-caps has remained popular, keeping the threshold for public businesses considerably lower. 

Nevertheless, SBSE is attractive because it is a solventless enrichment technique. That coupled with the rapidity and ease of use of this procedure will make it a desirable approach for analysts. The introduction of more selective sorbents will overcome problems with matrix effects. 

The freeze-drying technique is also used in the analytical laboratory. Two additional benefits make it attractive to analysts, namely (a) because the removal of water allows samples to be subsequently reconstituted in a minimal volume of liquid, a preconcentration effect is achieved and (b), even more important, because of their texture, freeze-dried materials are very easily attacked by solvents. The process can be optimized for a specific purpose by using an appropriate temperature, pH, reagent addition sequence and time. One major disadvantage of freeze-drying, however, is that some volatile compounds may be removed from the sample matrix during the process. 

Companies make money in essentially two ways - they either increase revenue and/or reduce costs. On the revenue side, the business case for CSR is more difficult to quantify reliably, for too many factors influence a company s performance. The general economic climate, industry conditions and market demands, volume discounts to distributors to clear out inventory, and acquisitions all affect revenue, but none has anything do with a company s CSR. Similarly, with stock price, while CSR companies may be more attractive to socially responsible investors (SRI), their corporate responsibility is only one of a half dozen or more factors that influence the buying decisions of money managers and stock analysts.

The determination of MSR for titer precision requires dilution profile data of at least five high-positive mock samples, diluted past the screening cut point, from at least three independent runs by two or more analysts (if relevant). The mock positive samples are drug-naive samples from individual donors spiked with a high concentration of the ADA-positive control. The titer results of all these mock positive samples from different runs should be log transformed and analyzed to obtain the overall standard deviation. This estimate of overall SD is then used to determine the MSR of the titer results, where MSR = 10A[2 sqrt(2) SD], assuming that base 10 was used in the log transformation of the titer results. In addition to the practical usefulness of the MSR concept in this application, an attractive feature is that it applies to any range of titer results. This is because the variability in log scale tends to be quite similar across the entire range of titer results.
