For professionals involved with the composites indus-try. Las Vegas is the place to be this month. The COMPOSITES 2012 Exhibition and Convention, which is produced by the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA), will be held February 21-23 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. More than 3,000 attendees from a variety of market segments are expected to attend. Markets represented at the show will include aerospace, architectural, automotive, civil structure, construction, corrosion, energy, kitchen and bath, marine, mass transportation, military, sports and leisure, and truck/RV. [Pg.23]

In 2007, ACMA (American Composites Manufacturers Association) and ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) jointly developed an LRFD (Load Resistance Factor Design) standard for pultruded composites. LRFD refers to a design methodology that makes use of load and resistance factors based on the known variability of applied loads and material parameters. The development of the LRFD standard is expected to significantly influence the universal acceptance of pultruded composites (Busel, 2008). [Pg.405]

Some new applications were showcased at the American Composites Manufacturers Association annual conference, Composites Polycon 2007, in Tampa, Florida. These included scaffolding for the construction industry and a new steel-free concrete deck (see Fig. 12.14). Creative Pultrusions Inc. has developed a tough, hght and more corrosion resistant composite sheet piling system (Fig. 12.15) named SuperLoc profiles. These profiles consist of polyester resin matrix with more than 100 fibreglass rovings in the core, plus two phes of continuous strand mat. SuperLoc so far has been utilized in more than 20 shorelines in the United States (Black, 2004). [Pg.407]

Wood poles typically require treatment with preservatives [e.g., creosote, copper chromium arsenate (CCA), penta-chloro-phenol (Penta)] to resist rot, decay, etc., in order to yield a service life of about 30-35 years. Due to preservation treatments of wood poles [22] which are hazardous to humans, the US-EPA regulations have led to evaluating the viability of alternatives to treated wood poles, i.e., steel, concrete, and FRP composite. Recently, through a strong push from the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA), FRP composite poles have been receiving greater attention from electrical utility and telecommunication companies due to their inherent advantages over poles made of conventional materials. [Pg.686]
