Composite poling

When composites are formed, the ferroelectric dipoles are randomly orientated within the material. To be of use, these dipoles must be realigned so that they point in the same direction this process is referred to as poling (see Chapter 5 for more details). Here an electrical field is applied across the sample to orientate the domains. Problems arise because the composite phases have different properties, and the electrical field seen by a particular phase may not be obvious. [Pg.242]

Because of its simple chemical composition, the role of kaolinite in clay mineral assemblages is peripheral to or a limiting case for chemiographic representation of clay mineral systems which contain free silica forms as a compositional pole. Most often during epi-metamorphism kaolinite is incorporated into other phases due to a displacement of the bulk... [Pg.32]

Wood poles typically require treatment with preservatives [e.g., creosote, copper chromium arsenate (CCA), penta-chloro-phenol (Penta)] to resist rot, decay, etc., in order to yield a service life of about 30-35 years. Due to preservation treatments of wood poles [22] which are hazardous to humans, the US-EPA regulations have led to evaluating the viability of alternatives to treated wood poles, i.e., steel, concrete, and FRP composite. Recently, through a strong push from the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA), FRP composite poles have been receiving greater attention from electrical utility and telecommunication companies due to their inherent advantages over poles made of conventional materials. [Pg.686]

Applications. Epoxy resias constitute over 90% of the matrix resia material used ia advanced composites. In addition, epoxy resias are used ia all the various fabrication processes that convert resias and reinforcements iato composite articles. Liquid resias ia combiaation, mainly, with amines and anhydride are used for filament winding, resia transfer mol ding, and pultmsion. Parts for aircraft, rocket cases, pipes, rods, tennis rackets, ski poles, golf club shafts, and fishing poles are made by one of these processes with an epoxy resia system. [Pg.23]

The two estimates, if plotted, look as shown in Fig. 6.4. This explains why fibre-reinforced composites like wood and GFRP are so stiff along the reinforced direction (the upper line of the figure) and yet so floppy at right angles to the direction of reinforcement (the lower line), that is, it explains their anisotropy. Anisotropy is sometimes what you want - as in the shaft of a squash racquet or a vaulting pole. Sometimes it is not, and then the layers of fibres can be laminated in a criss-cross way, as they are in the body shell of a Formula 1 racing car. [Pg.64]

Find the composition of the raffinate leaving the first stage, n by judging the position of the tie-line from e. Draw a line from the pole point, P, through r to cut the curve at e2, the extract leaving stage 2. [Pg.621]

Draw a line through from the pole point P through r, to find the point on the curve giving the extract composition leaving the second stage, e2. [Pg.621]

Equation 11.84 represents any operating line relating the composition of the vapour yn rising from a plate to the composition of the liquid reflux entering the plate, or alternatively it represents the relation between the composition of the vapour and liquid streams between any two plates. From equation 11.83, it may be seen that all such operating lines pass through a common pole N of coordinates xd and Hd. [Pg.584]

Equation 11.92 represents any operating line below the feed all such lines pass through a common pole M of coordinates rectifying section, a stream M may be defined by mass Lm+1 -enthalpy H. Thus plate, and it shows that xw and H. As with the - Vm, composition xw and... [Pg.585]

The enthalpy-composition approach may also be used for multiple feeds and sidestreams for binary systems. For the condition of constant molar overflow, each additional sidestream or feed adds a further operating line and pole point to the system. [Pg.589]

It is expected that the temperature of deep-water masses is more or less constant, as long as ice caps exist at the poles. Thus, the oxygen isotope composition of benthic organisms should preferentially reflect the change in the isotopic composition of the water (ice-volume effect), while the 5 0-values of planktonic foraminifera are affected by both temperature and isotopic water composition. [Pg.199]

Carbon and carbon-glass composites are being used to make advanced-material fishing rods, bicycle frames, golf clubs, baseball bats, racquets, skis and ski poles, basketball back-boards, etc. These come in one color—black—because the carbon fibers are black. Even so, they can be coated with about any color desired. [Pg.245]
