Chloro phenol

Our method, NBS-amine system, is applied to orf/zo-bromination of 2-substituted phenols (e.g. 2-allyIphenol, o-cresol, 2-bromophenol, and 2-chloro-phenol) (Table 4). 

A facultatively anaerobic organism designated Anaeromyxobacter dehalogenans (Sanford et al. 2002) was capable of dechlorinating ortho-chlorinated phenols using acetate as electron donor—2-chlorophenol was reduced to phenol and 2,6-dichlorophenol to 2-chloro-phenol (Cole et al. 1994). A strain of Desulfovibrio dechloracetivorans was also able to couple the dechlorination of ortho-substituted chlorophenols to the oxidation of acetate, fumarate, lactate, and propionate (Sun et al. 2000). 

In addition to in situ soil applications, Fenton reagent has also been studied for treatment of industrial waste streams. For example, the treatment of residual Kraft black liquor from the pulp-and-paper industry has been shown to be effective [42]. Near-complete degradation of lignin (95-100%) and decolorization were achieved under optimized conditions. Basic oxygen furnace slag was evaluated as a source of iron for degradation of 2-chloro-phenol in industrial wastewater [43], and favorable results were achieved. 

Earlier studies [11,12] have shown that photo excitation of aqueous 2-chloro-phenol or 2-bromophenol leads to contraction of the aromatic cycle to give cyclopentadienic acids (an example of a Wolff rearrangement [13]), and to substitution of the halogen by OH (photohydrolysis), with moderate quantum yields (< = 0.01-0.04). A carbene (2-oxocyclohexa-3,5-dienylidene) was suggested as a possible intermediate in the ring contraction pathway [11]. 

Concentrated emulsions were also used to prepare substrates for the immobilization of enzymes and cells. Lipase was immobilized in hydrophobic porous polymers and the system employed in the hydrolysis of triacylglycerides [71]. Cells of Phanerochaete Chrysosporium were immobilized on porous poly(styrene-divinylbenzene) carrier and used for the degrading of 2-chloro-phenol [72]. The substrates were prepared as in Ref. 73.
