Natural gas is by far the preferred source of hydrogen. It has been cheap, and its use is more energy efficient than that of other hydrocarbons. The reforming process that is used to produce hydrogen from natural gas is highly developed, environmental controls are simple, and the capital investment is lower than that for any other method. Comparisons of the total energy consumption (fuel and synthesis gas), based on advanced technologies, have been discussed elsewhere (102). [Pg.243]

Solution Polymerization. Two types of solution polymerization technologies are used for LLDPE synthesis. One process utilizes heavy solvents the other is carried out in mixtures of supercritical ethylene and molten PE as a polymerization medium. Original solution processes were introduced for low pressure manufacture of PE resins in the late 1950s subsequent improvements of these processes gradually made them economically competitive with later, more advanced technologies. [Pg.399]

Patents and trade secrets are protected by securing rights to ideas and the appHcation of ideas that have commercial worth. The grant of rights in patents and trade secrets is based on an appreciation of development, advancement, and invention that will stimulate innovation by advancing technology. Patents and trade secrets are two distinct mechanisms for protecting invention vis-a-vis the appHcation of ideas. Both are supported by the poHcies and laws of the United States. [Pg.25]

It should not be assumed that just because there is no seal, sealless pumps are always safer than pumps with seals, even with the advanced technology now available in sealless pumps. Use sealless pumps with considerable caution when handling hazardous or flammable liquids. [Pg.2310]

With the availability of V/f drives and other advanced technologies through static controls, as discussed in Sections 6.2 to 6.4, the use of standard squirrel cage motors for such applications is a preferred choice. [Pg.169]

Note It is. however, possible to eliminate the use of HRC fuses in LT systems at least, with Ihe availability of more advanced technology in an MCCB or an MPCB (motor protection circuit breakeri. See Section 12.1 I for a fuse-free system. [Pg.291]

Use of the.se breakers is gradually waning in the light of more advanced technologies available in an ACB and MCCB. [Pg.367]

Against this backdrop, the quest for more efficient processes, more reliable equipment, downtime avoidance, and maintenance cost reductions is understandable. How are these pursuits structured Better yet, how should they be structured The answer is the real best-of-class, high profitability performers who are hard at work changing old ways of thinking. They are willing to reassess work processes and work procedures. Best-of-class companies also revisit the basics while, understandably, engaging in the search for new and advanced technologies. [Pg.521]

The structure-property relations of fullerenes, fullerene-derived solids, and carbon nanotubes are reviewed in the context of advanced technologies for carbon-hased materials. The synthesis, structure and electronic properties of fullerene solids are then considered, and modifications to their structure and properties through doping with various charge transfer agents are reviewed. Brief comments are included on potential applications of this unique family of new materials. [Pg.35]

In 1994 the Oak Ridge National Laboratory hosted an American Carbon Society Workshop entitled Carbon Materials for Advanced Technologies . The inspiration for this book came from that workshop. By late 1995 a suitable group of contributors had been identified such that the scope of this book would be sufficiently broad to make a useful contribution to the literature. [Pg.555]
