Therefore, switch-off times are independent of the field strength and directly dependent on material parameters, such as viscosity coefficients and elastic constants, and the cell configuration. Therefore, they are often three or four orders of magnitude larger than the switch-on times. This chapter will review the relative contributions of exercise and food intake to changes in body weight and more specifically body composition. The emphasis of this chapter is on exercise as a modality for fat reduction and fat-free weight maintenance with the focus on aerobic exercise which has greater potential to modify body composition due to larger effects on energy balance. The first section reviews the effects of aerobic exercise on body composition in humans. The second section addresses techniques for measurement of body composition and limitations of these measurements in humans. The third section examines the use of experimental animals for studies of exercise and body composition, and the fourth section examines the interactions of diet and exercise. 

Despite these promising perspectives one must be aware that the utilization of the minute size requires new and comprehensive fabrication and addressing techniques. Extension of the present-day technologies to smaller structures or the development of techniques which treat chemical nanostructures with conventional technologies will not reach the true molecular size scale and will therefore waste much of the advantage of these structures. But even in arrays which are preformed by lithographic techniques, the self-assembling nature of chemical nanostructure helps overcome current size limits. 

Many existing de facto standards do not explidtly make use of object-oriented techniques, yet use a standard data structure and format which can easily be mapped and transferred using an OMM. Examples of this would be ControlNet , Modbus or Data Highway Plus protocols that use a structured addressing technique to transfer data between nodes on their highways. Such links could easily be connected to the OCS controller using standard physical media and protocols, and data are made available to the rest of the system by the OMM layer in the controller. Examples of this are shown in Figure 6.7.
