Adding Video

ACID is not a video-editing application bnt shonld be thought of instead primarily as a scoring tool. Because of this, ACID s video features are robust but simple. Tbis section will introduce you to adding video to AQD projects and working with that video, tii addition, we ll look at some of the more complex featnres that allow yon to precisely synchronize video to audio, right down to matching action to tempo. 

Adding video to AQD is mnch the same as adding andio and MIDI. First, browse for video media using ACID s Explorer window, then add a video track, and draw an event on the timeline. Unlike andio media files, video files cannot be previewed as you browse for tbem in the Explorer window. Here s what to do

Select video files (single-click) in the Explorer window. Only the audio will be previewed. You may turn on antomatic previewing by clicking the Auto Preview button on the Explorer window toolbar. 

Draw an event in the newly created video track.

The CD-I (compact disk-interactive) is a low cost alternative to the CD-ROM for the entertainment industry. CD-I is a subset of the CD-ROM standard data format. It allows the digital storage of data, audio, and video information in a form that permits rapid interaction with a computer. CD-I is compatible to CD-ROM and to CD-AD 0 = 120 mm. The definition of the CD-I format is put down in the Green Book (Philips/Sony). 

There s a slight conceptual difficulty here. Although there s an obvious transfer of money from one participant to another, what you ve gotten for it once you ve returned the video is less concrete than in the case of a sale. The most you re left with as a souvenir is whatever impression the video has made on your mind. Nevertheless, there s no reason that we shouldn t model this abstract notion as a Past Rental and model the rent use case as adding to your list of them (see Figure 14.12).

Third, the valve that connects both vessels is open and about 1 mg of the mother crystal is fed after confirming that the temperature in both vessels has become constant (after about lh). After 2h, the images of crystals are taken by a video camera under irradiation through a 4 mm slit every 1 h after adding the mother crystal. Taking advantage of new technology by NetBlender, Physical Chemistry in Practice is an enhanced DVD that allows for standard video playback in a DVD player but also has an enhanced interface when used with a Microsoft Windows computer (Fig. 13.1). While any DVD player can play the video contained within, the enhanced interface provides access to the same video while adding flexibility of access and supporting content in other formats. The content of the enhanced interface is summarized in Table 13.1, and the major content sections are described in detail below. 

This mode was added after the first implementations, in response to student feedback. Despite the research literature to the contrary (Sweller et al. 1998), students wanted the ability to view the video with associated text (theory, definitions, and transcript) alongside. The chapter mode allows users to have the video playing on one-half of the screen and text on the other (Fig. 13.2). 

With the addition of a shared database to a network, users can now centrally store data, find the data again easily, and report on it. The network extends the database to all users who need the information. Information that is changed by one user is instantly updated for all users. As new information is added to the database, all the users can see it. With a modem database, it is important to note that the data contained within the database need not be limited to plain text data. Text, images, documents, video, sound, and any other information that can be entered into a computer can be stored in a database.

I he maintenance of portable computers has its own set of rules to follow. Due to the complexity of their design, most manufacturers insist that all upgrades be performed at an authorized service center. Equipment such as LCD display screens, DC controllers, video boards, or processors are often unreachable in a laptop. Most field service will involve replacing hard drives, adding memory, configuring PCMCIA cards, or adding a battery to extend useable time.
