Editing video

While ACID 3.0 can handle finished video very nicely, it is not a video-editing application. If you douhle-click a video event in AQD, or right-click a video track and select Edit Video, a promotional message pops up advertising Sonic Foundry s video-editing applications (see Figure 11.12).

Student CD-ROM, a student tutorial resource, supports the goals of the fifth edition by helping students visualize molecular behavior and manipulate molecules in three dimensions. Animations and videos are also included. This CD is intended as a review tool for students, allowing them to brush up on basic concepts and fill in any gaps in their fundamental knowledge. 

You should familiarize yourself with your computer before attempting to type in a program. Learn the statements you use to store and retrieve programs from tape or disk. You ll want to save a copy of your program so that you won t have to type it in every time you want to use it. Learn to use your machine s editing functions. How do you change a line if you made a mistake You can always retype the line, but you should at least know how to delete characters. Do you know how to enter reverse-video, lowercase, and control characters It s all explained in your manual. 

Once you press the quote (the double quote, SHIFT-2), you are in the quote mode. If you type something and then try to change it by moving the cursor left, you ll only get a bunch of reverse-video lines. These are the symbols for cursor left. The only editing key that isn t affected by quote mode is the INST/DEL key you can still use INST/DEL to back up and edit the line. Once you type another quote, you are out of quote mode.

A design process in the considered application domain comprises several different forms of communication and cooperation. To give only a few examples, video conferences can be planned for the discussion about interim results of a design step between geographically distributed designers, shared document editing helps in document manipulation and presentation in distributed work groups, and informal communication could be necessary if a question arises which can only be answered by a remotely located project partner. 

In a typical cooperation process, not only video and audio information are to be exchanged. Also, designers discuss about documents, and maybe these documents are modified. Thus, in addition to the conferencing some way of shared document editing is needed. A well-known technology is application sharing [850]. 

The decision by Wiley-VCH to publish an English edition in 1999 was the start of many hectic months for me. To produce the present book, not only had the text, references and market overview to be updated, but also two more Sections describing new equipment had to be included. Documents 4-13 were revised and Tables 21a and 26 were added. The Sections on video documentation were also extensively revised to take account of technical advances in this area.

Postproduction time varies from project to project. Andrew s finished video took about two days to edit, but most projects are more complex, and some have required several weeks of work by multiple editors. Many of the events we cover span multiple days, and often we create custom animated closings, openings, and transitions.
