Activities in Europe

COST has developed into one of the largest frameworks for research cooperation in Europe and is a valuable mechanism for coordinating national research activities in Europe. Today it has almost 200 actions and involves nearly 30,000 scientists from 32 European member countries and more than 50 participating institutions from 11 nonniember countries. [Pg.1547]

Many policies and practices have been adopted by European countries for the management of contaminated sites. Information about the various national polices, the technical approaches for risk assessment, and the progress of rehabilitation activities in Europe has been compiled in the framework of two European networks—CARACS (Concerted Action for Risk Assessment for Contaminated Sites) and CLARINET (Contaminated Land Rehabilitation Network for Environmental Technologies)—which were funded by the European Commission. A detailed description of European national policies can be found in relevant publications2 3 and in the CLARINET website (http //www.clarinet.at). [Pg.520]

The competent authorities of the Netherlands, the task force member responsible for coordinating Project Prism activities in Europe, have launched a specific time-bound operation focusing on backtracking investigations. The operation is aimed at identifying companies and individuals responsible for the manufacture and diversion of precursors of amphetamine-type stimulants, specifically P-2-P, in the region. If successful, the operation may be expanded to include areas beyond Europe. [Pg.8]

In the legislation of different national governments, some limits were defined especially for wastewater and air. The activities in Europe are covered by the Council Directive 96/61/EC concerning Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) [9]. This means that all... [Pg.367]

Fuel cells did not boom again for more than 50 years, although there was occasional activity in Europe. Then another person appeared on the scene, a man in the same vein as Sir William Grove, but much, much more persistent. This was Francis Thomas Bacon, and since it was he who stood directly behind NASA s use of fuel cells in the space flights, it can truly be said that more than any other individual, it was... [Pg.279]

Such activities in Europe are widely dispersed and a COST Action seems to be the best approach to integrate, streamline and harmonize these national efforts towards a leap forward for new breakthroughs beneficial for a wide community of scientists and users. [Pg.4]

Finally, major FIPV chemical-related activities in Europe to utilize, or to monitor and learn from, include the development of the European Information System on Risks from chemicals released from consumer products/articles (EIS-ChemRisks). EIS-ChemRisks has been designed to be a European-wide expert and stakeholders network of networks to systematically exchange and assess information on risks from chemicals released from consumer products/articles. The overall objective is to develop tools and reference data to enable harmonized exposure assessment procedures in the European Union. These tools and reference data will support the development of a structured stakeholder dialog in the framework of the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD, 2001/ 95/EC) and progressively in the framework of the European Commission s REACH program as it is established and implemented. [Pg.1338]

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) is a decentralized body of the European Union created with the objective to harmonize regulatory activities in Europe. EMEA began its activities in 1995, when the European system for authorizing medicinal products was introduced, providing for a centralized and a mutual recognition procedure. Its main responsibility is the protection and promotion of public and animal health through the evaluation and supervision of medicines for human and veterinary use. [Pg.1383]

Further, The IPHE Coordination Action for Research on Intermediate and High Temperature Speciahzed Membrane Electrode Assemblies (CARISMA) seeks to network research activities in Europe on high temperature membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) and their components. Coordination activities are centered on membranes, catalysts, and high temperature MEAs. [Pg.108]

The market products are available in different concentrations. Various parts of the world have different concentrations. Most parts of the world have dilute products. These products contain about 5% of the active. In Europe there are also concentrated products (15-20% active) in addition to the dilute formulations. In the United States ultraconcentrated products are also on the market, which contain over 20% of active. [Pg.365]

There are currently only three players in the sector. Unilever was first on the market in the USA, with its phytosterol margarine sold under the name of Take Control in the USA and as Flora/Becel/Fruit d Or/pro.activ in Europe and... [Pg.11]

In spite of its generally good state of preservation, the conservation, repair, and reconstruction of Roman cement facades forms an important part of today s architectural conservation activities in Europe. This is why the insufficient understanding of the historic material and the lack of appropriate binders lead to the current research focus on Roman cements. [Pg.73]

Health is something to which the students pay less and less attention. The University sport activities in Europe are too much less supported as compared to the US. An entrepreneur has to have a good and stable health, otherwise he will become sick quickly with all the stress. The non-individual sports help in addition to learning social capability. [Pg.148]
