Acrylics heat stabilizers

Lotader Ethylene-acrylic Heat stability 1-5 Adhesive For engineering s ... [Pg.254]

The main use for acrylates is in sealing applications where the improved heat stability over nitrile rubber is the benefit. Automotive transmission seals are probably the major use, other automotive applications include O-rings, hose, tubing, cable covering and spark plug boots. Also used in adhesive formulations. [Pg.103]

Modacrylic fibers, like acrylic, require after-stretching and heat stabilization in order to develop the necessary properties. It is thought that the stretching is of the order of 900-1300 percent, and that, in a separate operation, shrinkage of about 15-25 percent is allowed during the time that the fibers are heat stabilized. [Pg.471]

Other Plastics Uses. The plasticizer range alcohols have a number of other uses in plastics liexanol and 2-ethylliexanol are used as part of the catalyst system in the polymerization of acrylates, ethylene, and propylene (55) the peroxydicarbonate of 2-ethylliexanol is utilized as a polymerization initiator for vinyl chloride various trialkyl phosphites find usage as heat and light stabilizers for plastics organotin derivatives are used as heat stabilizers for PVC octanol improves the compatibility of calcium carbonate filler in various plastics 2-ethylliexanol is used to make expanded polystyrene beads (56) and acrylate esters serve as pressure sensitive adhesives. [Pg.450]

Research into controlled-release antimicrobials continues with organo-silver compounds and silver zeolites, which are promising candidates for textile finishes. Silver ions, for example, incorporated in glass ceramic, have a very low toxicity profile and excellent heat stability. These principles are also used for fibre modification, an alternative to the antimicrobial finishes with high permanence. In recent years a variety of antimicrobial modified fibres have been developed, including polyester, nylon, polypropylene and acrylic types. An example of these fibre modifications is the incorporation of 0.5-2 % of organic nitro compounds... [Pg.168]

Acrylic fibers discolor and decompose rather than melt when heated. Acrylic fibers, however, have very good color and heat stability at temperatures less than 230°C. In a study by American Cyanamid (using Federal Test Specification TT-P-141a Method 425.2), the yellowness of acrylic fabric was measured as a function of temperature [365]. Compared with a value of 0.00 for a pure-white body, the original fiber had a yellowness index of 0.04-0.10. After 30 min of exposure at 115°C, the yellowness increased only slightly from 0.11 to 0.17. After 6h at 130°C, however, the yellowness increased from 0.38 to 0.41. [Pg.916]

Quinacridone pigments are available in orange, red, and violet. They have good light fastness, excellent bleed and chemical resistance, and adequate heat stability for most plastics. However, they are high in cost. They perform best in polystyrene and acrylic at lower temperatures. They are not recommended for nylon. [Pg.385]

Aromatic amorphous or semicrystalline polyamides, PARA, such as copolyamide from caprolactam, hexamethylenediamine and iso- and tere-phthalic acids, PA-6IT6, or copolyphthalamide, PPA, are frequent components of polymer blends. Their advantage is low permeability to liquids and gases, stiffness and high HDT. Several blends of PP with PARA have been described, e.g. with either PP-MA, PE-MA, or PP grafted either with acrylic acid or GMA. Usually, these blends must be heat stabilized with phosphite ester or hydrazine. The alloys are often reinforced by addition of glass fibers and talc. [Pg.633]

Recent developments include systems with better colour fidelity and handling properties. Dover s Doverphos HiPure 4 and 4-HR are high-purity tris-nonylphenyl phosphite (TNPP) processing and heat stabilizers, claimed to reduce overall costs. With 0.1% residual nonyl phenol, they are FDA-approved for food-contact applications and also used in medicals, colour-critical polyolefins, and styrenic block copolymers. They are effective also in acrylics, elastomers, nylon, polycarbonate, polyurethanes, polystyrene. PVC. ABS, and PET. [Pg.96]

Kane Ace FM is an acrylic high weather-resistant impact modifier for PVC products such as window profiles, siding and business machine housings, based on Kaneka technology. It imparts good processability, gelation behaviour, heat stability and low die-swell in lead-stabilized compounds, at addition levels of 8 phr. [Pg.192]

The general structure of a t5 ical azo dye is shown in Figure 1. All azo dyes contain the bond -N=N-. One of the largest families of dyes, the azo dyes have found their way into many polymer applications. This is mainly due to their extreme brightness and low cost. Many of these dyes are staples of the color palette, especially for styrene, acrylics, some polyesters and minor ABS applications. Heat stability needs to be monitored but the light stability is acceptable for many low end applications. [Pg.218]

Solvent Yellow 163 and 167 are beginning to find applications in the coloration of polyamide 6,6. This non-reactive nature appears as a result of the replacement of the amine bridge with a sulfur atom. Solvent Red 168 is a bit bluer in shade than the Solvent Red 111 in acrylic, but has slightly increased heat stability and less sublimination problems. It also can be used in taillight applications. [Pg.220]

Degalan V 26 (Degussa, A.G., B.R.D.). This is a 90/10 (methyl methacrylate)-(butyl acrylate) copolymer. It mixes well with PVC and it does not affect its transparency, water absorption, and electrical properties. It is suitable to modify the rheological properties of impact-PVC. It shortens the plastication time of PVC mixtures and it improves their homogenization and the extrusion output. The addition of Degalan V 26 also improves the heat stability of PVC mixtures and increases the resistance of PVC-based products to heat distortion. [Pg.65]

Several other acrylic copolymers with pendent maleate-cinnamoloxy/ " maleate-)8-(2-furyl) acrylate/ and the maleate derivative of hydroxyalkyl arylamine groups are shown to be potentially useful for photopolymeri-zable printing plates. Polyacrylonitrile fibers have been treated with MA to obtain modified fiber with improved strength, heat stability, and acid stretching ratio. >... [Pg.505]
