Water, polymeric

Chemical Reactivity - Reactivity with Water. Dissolves and forms a weak solution if nitric acid. The reaction is not hazardous Reactivity with Common Materials May corrode metals in presence of moisture Stability During Transport Stable Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics Flush with water Polymerization Not pertinent Inhibitor of Polymerization Not pertinent. [Pg.14]

Chemical Reactivity - Reactivity with Water Hot water may cause frothing. Reaction with cold water is slow and non-hazardous Reactivity with Common Materials No reaction Stability During Transport Stable Neutralizing AgerUs for Acids and Caustics Solid spills can usually be recovered before any significant reaction with water occurs. Flush area of spill with water Polymerization Very unlikely at ordinary temperatures, even in the molten state Inhibitor of Polymerization None. [Pg.243]

Experiment showed that carefully purified isobutene and boron fluoride do not react, but that on addition of water polymerization sets in [29]. It is known that boron fluoride and water react to give a highly acidic monohydrate and that isobutene can be oligomerised by strong acids. It was concluded that the polymerization involves the following reactions ... [Pg.117]

Numerous types of chemical reactions pose potential hazards. Literature and incident data highlight the hazards of common industrial reactions, such as polymerization, decomposition, acid-base, oxidation-reduction (redox), and reactions with water. Polymerization and decomposition can be classified as self-reactions because they often involve just one chemical substance. However, other... [Pg.296]

Because of acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of N-vinylpyrrolidone in water, polymerization was carried out in organic solvent - DMF. Three types of samples of poly(methacrylic acid) were used syndiotactic - obtained by radiation polymerization, atactic - obtained by radical polymerization, and isotactic - obtained by hydrolysis of isotactic poly(methyl methacrylate). It was found that in all cases the rate enhancement appeared in comparison with the blank polymerization (without template). The rate enhancement became more pronounced with increasing chain length and syndiotacticity of the template. According to the authors, the rate enhancement is connected with the stronger complex formation between poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and syndiotactic poly(methacrylic acid) then with isotactic template. This conclusion was supported by turbimetric titration in DMF/DMSO system and by model considerations. It is worth noting, however, that... [Pg.30]
