Cyclopentadiene oligomers have been formed by vapor deposition of CPD on kaolin to afford a sorbant for removal of oil from water (71). They are also employed as coatings for controlling release rates of fertilizers (72). Thermal addition of sulfur to a mixture of DCPD and CPD oligomers has led to a number of beneficial appHcations such as waste water oil adsorbant powdery foams (73), plasticized backing for carpets and artificial turfs (74), and in modified sulfur cements for encapsulating low-level radioactive wastes (75). [Pg.435]

Other types of selective systems employ multiple final control elements or multiple controllers. In some applications, several manipulated variables are used to control a single process variable (also called split-range control). Typical examples include the adjustment of both inflow and outflow from a chemic reactor in order to control reactor pressure or the use of both acid and base to control pH in waste-water treatment. In this approach, the selector chooses from several controller outputs which final control element should be adjusted (Marlin, Process Control, McGraw-Hill, New York, 1995). [Pg.734]

Fluid catalytic cracking units present formidable emission control problems. Contaminants are present in both reactor product gas and regenerator flue gas. The reactor product contains hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and cyanides, plus combined sulfur and nitrogen in the liquid products. Hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and cyanides are handled as part of the overall refinery waste water cleanup. The combined sulfur and nitrogen may be removed by hydrotreating. [Pg.25]
