Continuous improvement is more than a trend in today s business environment, and the means of achieving it is the visual workplace, which will improve quaUty, organization, efficiency, housekeeping and safety. 

The 5S methodology, as described in Hiroyuki Hirano s 5 Pillars of the Visual Workplace, is the foundation for making company wide improvements in both the production facility and the front office, so that the just-in-time production strategy of inventory management can be implemented. 

With proper plaiming and execution, any production facility can implement the 5S s for a visual workplace — not only in the plant, but in the front offices and any secondary warehousing facilities as well. 

The role of chemical technology in printing is also changing. Whereas a need exists for hard copy, whether for visual, legal, or historical reasons, the hard copy must meet new standards of performance, including visual and environmental. Many traditional printing processes have become unacceptable in the workplace, and are being replaced by processes that are water-based, dry, desktop, or in some other ways more convenient.

By integrating the cooperative work perspective to our NATURE based metamodel, we have been able to extend the PRIME process support in order to support the cross-functional interplay among developers. More precisely, PRIME is able to remotely trace the process enactment at several workplaces and transfer information from one to the other, when needed, using a shared ontology that obeys company policies and rules.
