Vinyl resin paint coatings

Marine atmospheres. Salt particles are found in these atmospheres. Because of their salt spray resistance, chlorinated rubber, epoxy, and vinyl resin paint coatings are used. [Pg.113]

The properties of vinyl resins, paints, and coatings are chiefly determined by the nature and number of substituents. The substituents influence the crystallization behavior and thus the properties of interest in paint technology such as the softening range, mechanical properties (film flexibility, cold embrittlement tendency, film hardness), the film-forming temperature in dispersions, solubility, and compatibility... [Pg.23]

Vinyl resins ie, copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate which contain hydroxyl groups from the partial hydrolysis of vinyl acetate and/or carboxyl groups, eg, from copolymerized maleic anhydride, may be formulated with alkyd resins to improve their appHcation properties and adhesion. The blends are primarily used in making marine top-coat paints. [Pg.42]

MAJOR USES Used in the production of explosives, gasoline, paint remover, propellants, inks, rubber, dyes, resins, organic compounds, vinyl and epoxy coatings and pharmaceuticals. [Pg.162]

Paints and coating materials based on vinyl resins are generally physically drying. Only in a few cases vinyl resins can be chemically cross-linked with other reactants via incorporated reactive groups. The properties of the paints are therefore primarily determined by the chemical and physical nature of the vinyl resin. Despite the large number of available vinyl resins this class of binders has some common features. [Pg.23]

On account of its low thermal stability, polyfvinylidene chloride) is seldom used in paints. Vinylidene chloride copolymers with vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, or acrylates are mainly employed. These heat-sealable copolymers are efficient gas barriers and have an outstanding resistance to chemicals. They are marketed as solid resins and dispersions. Vinylidene chloride copolymers are mainly used for coating foodpackaging foils. They are also important in paint coatings where good chemical resistance is required. [Pg.27]

The chemically resistant coatings, such as the baked phenolics, baked epoxies, and the air-dry epoxy, vinyl, and neoprene coatings, are ideal for minimizing contamination of chanicals handled in steel equipment. They should not be used where 100% protection from corrosion is required. An excellent material for immersion service has been developed that consists of flakes of glass dispersed in a polyester resin. This is applied by spray to a properly prepared surface, and the wet coating is rolled with a paint roller to orient the glass flakes in a plane parallel to the substrate and to provide maximum resistance to chemical attack. [Pg.598]
