Permeation rates are dependent on the ehemieal makeup of the eontamination. This ineludes the size of the eontaminant (how large or small the moleeule or partiele is) and on the pore size of the proteetive material (for instanee, impermeable rubber suits, tyveks, or eotton eoveralls). Chemieal eharaeteristies (i.e., polarity, vapor pressure, pH) of both the eontaminant and the proteetive material also determine permeability. Keep in mind that gases, vapors, and low-viseosity liquids tend to permeate more readily than high-viseosity liquids or solids [2],... [Pg.153]

However, after becoming familiar with site hazards as best as one can, along with analytical data, the level of protection shonld be reexamined. This reexamination shonld be bnilt into the plan, and specific criteria for downgrading levels of protection or the type of protective eqnipment shonld be considered. Even a downgrade in the type of coveralls reqnired can make a large difference in worker heat stress load. The ability of tyvek to breathe (as opposed to saranex) is very desirable when considering worker comfort and heat load. These options, and when they become viable, shonld be anticipated beforehand and placed in the SSAHP. [Pg.190]

Union Carbide Corp produced the first of the synthetic papers in the late 1960s. Since that time other examples of synthetic papers include DuPont s Tyvek nonwoven paper and Van Leer s Valeron cross-laminated film. This market is now dominated by a few large, worldwide ventures with proprietary processing techniques that extend the use of single and multilayer extruded blown film or cast film. [Pg.268]

Personal protective equipment is clothing and/or respiratory equipment worn to protect the body against various forms of contamination. Some of the most common forms of personal protective equipment include dust masks, air purifying respirators, protective suits made from particulates or chemically resistant materials such as Tyvek (E.I. Du Pont de Nemours Company, Inc., Wilmington, DE) and/or other fabrics, and lightweight protective rubber gloves or chemical-resistant gloves. [Pg.156]

Other relatively inexpensive personal protective items that are not absolutely essential but should be considered are protective garments and gloves. One-piece coveralls with head covers and booties made from lightweight plastic such as Tyvek are relatively inexpensive, semi-repellent, and disposable. These types of suits are used in the nuclear and chemical industries to provide an added protection against contamination. Tyvek suits have sewn seams and are not recommended for chemical protection, except for vapors of low toxic solvents. Saranex-coated Tyvek or other heavy multilayer suits are required for long-term protection from chemicals. These heavier specialized suits significantly increase heat stress and should not be used by untrained personnel. [Pg.157]

Certain bacteria are selected based on their ability to attach to specific metals. These bacteria are then grown in a nutrient broth and then placed in contact with a porous synthetic fiber such as Dacron , Orion , or Tyvek fiber. Wastewater is then brought into contact with these bacteria-coated fibers, and specific metals in the wastewater attached to the bacteria on the fibers. The metals are removed from the fibers through washing, burning, contact with sodium carbonate, or by some means. [Pg.468]

The (provide vial size) vial used for the filling of (product name) USP and the media fill run study are the same in dimension and in conformity to glass container requirements as dehned by USP <66l> and EP3.2.1. The stoppers are made up of bromobutyle-based robber formulation, conform to EP 3.2.9 (type I closure), ISO 8871, Current USP, JPXII, and are sterilizable Tyvek bags. The aluminum flip-cap seals used meet the PDA regulation 21 CFR 177.1520 (c) (1.16). [Pg.514]

Heat penetration study was performed per plant SOP. Using four shelves of the trolley, distribute the load and thermocouples were distributed per the following sequence. Note All bags were to be positioned with Tyvek side down and HDPE side up. [Pg.663]

Measurements were made of the concentration of pesticide in the breathing zone of the workers, on patches attached to the workers clothing, and in the urine of crew members. In the 2,4-D tests, comparisons were made between amounts found under normal spray operations and amounts found when techniques for limiting exposure were used including special instructions and the use of protective clothing consisting of hat, boots, gloves, and Tyvek coveralls. [Pg.321]

You can also ask handymen, contractors and other visitors if they could arrive as perfume- and aftershave-free as possible. If somebody comes by often, you can give them safe products for washing (clothes and body), which reduces a large part of the harmfulness. Often people are willing to cooperate, especially when it costs them no money. Another option is to ask someone to put on a Tyvek coverall (see entry 306 and Part VI for online vendors). [Pg.35]

Do not let visitors who are not safe for you (chemical- or scent-free) sit on your furniture the fabric could absorb the perfume scents from their clothes. Protect your couch with Tyvek (available at stores that sell kite-making materials), or ask your visitors to sit on smooth (plastic) garden chairs which are easy to clean and put away. [Pg.35]

Make sure that your skin is covered as much as possible by, for example, wearing Tyvek coveralls. (See entry306.)... [Pg.172]
