Trowel roller

Air dry or low force cured systems utilize either amines, amine adducts, or polyamide curing agents for polymerization. They can be formulated for spray, brush, roller or trowel type applications. Since these materials do use a catalyst to obtain curing, they will have a limited pot life. This can vary from one-quarter hour to 24 hours depending on the type of catalyst utilized and the amount of solvent in the formulation. Systems vary in their solvent content generally from 60% to 0% solvents. As the solvent decreases, the pot I ife also decreases substantially. 

Among the various applications which have not been treated in greater detail are the spray coat applications and the underlayment applications. The spray coat applications are based on combinations of cement and other fillers, together with a latex binder. These applications may be applied by banish, roller and trowel, as well as by spray. They are often promoted as a substitute for "rubbing" concrete. 

Highly pigmented, pasty coatings and viscous putties and fillers are applied by troweling. The materials are applied with a pair of counterrotating rollers. Excess material is smoothed and pressed into the workpiece surface. This method can only be used for flat, striplike, or panel-shaped workpieces (e.g., wooden panels). 

Solution adhesives are applied at 10-25% total solids content by spray, doctor knife, reverse roll coater, roller, or by spatula or trowel. The adhesive is dried at room temperature or in air ovens, care being taken to eliminate the fire and health hazards associated with some solvents. 

Often applied via a trowel, knife, or gun-type dispenser, one-component systems can be applied directly from a tube. Various types of roller coaters are also used. Metering-type dispensing equipment in the 2500 range has been used to some extent. 

A thixotropic two component epoxy assembly adhesive for application by trowel or roller, with good gap filling properties and offering a long open time. 

Flooring adhesives are used for attaching floor coverings to a variety of substrates. The adhesives must develop a strong and durable bond between the floor covering and the substrate. They should not adversely affect coverings, supports and substrates, and after application, should remain odorless and have low emissions. Usually flooring adhesives are applied to the substrate by hand with trowels or sometimes rollers.

Solvent cements are usually supplied at concentrations of 10-25% solids, with viscosities in the range of 1,000-30,000 cPs. They may be applied by brush, spray, doctor blade, reverse-roll coater, hand roller, trowel, and many other application methods. The proper coating of the adhesive is obtained by establishing the correct viscosity for the particular application method. After application, the solvent is removed by ambient drying or by forced drying in heated ovens or tunnels. 

Preferrred systems of application. The nature of the materials being bonded will many times dictate the preferred method of application. Large surfaces may require a spray or roller coat application. Thin plastics or fabrics may require also a roller or spray. Other applications call for an extrusion, while even others will lend themselves better to trowel, spot, spatula, brush, or other types of application.
