Tretinoin

Sensitization to tretinoin (retinoic acid) has been described several times in humans without known pre-exposure (Jordan et al. 1975) and in patients during topical [Pg.347]

Chemical Name 3,7-dimethyl-9-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexen-1 yl]-2,4,6,8-nonatetraenoic acid [Pg.1522]

Common Name Vitamin A acid retinoic acid Structural Formula  [Pg.1522]

Trade Name Manufacturer Country Year Introduced [Pg.1522]

100 parts of beta-ionol are dissolved in 200 parts of dimethylformamide and after the addition of 165 parts of triphenylphosphine hydrobromide, stirred for 7 hours at room temperature. Then 70 parts of 4-methyl-1 al-hexadiene-(2,4]-acid-(6] (melting point 177°C, white needles from water) are added to the now clear solution. 150 parts of isopropanol [Pg.1522]

Agents which enhance the host s response against neoplasias or force them to differentiate are termed biological response modifiers. Examples include interleukin 2 which is used to treat renal cell carcinoma, interferon a which is active against hematologic neoplasias, and tretinoin (all-trans retinoic acid) which is a powerful inducer of differentiation in certain leukemia cells by acting on retinoid receptors. Side effects include influenza like symptoms, changes in blood pressure and edema. [Pg.156]

Retinoic acid (RA) describes a group of vitamin A acid (synonym Vitamin A1 acid) derivatives such as all-irans-retinoic acid (tretinoin), 9-cis-retinoic acid and 13-cis retinoic acid (isotretinoin). Retinoic acids act through binding to retinoic acid and retinoid X response elements. [Pg.1071]

Up to now, far more than 5000 retinoic acid analogs have been synthesized, out of which the following three generations have been established for therapy of various disorders First, the nonaromatic retinoids (3-carotene (provitamin A), alWraras-retinoic acid (RA) (tretinoin) and 13-cis-RA (isotretinoin), second, the monoaromatic retinoid derivatives trimethyl-methoxyphenyl analog of RA (etretinate) and9-(4-methoxy-2,3,6-trimethylphenyl)-... [Pg.1072]

Patients of varying skin types (1-V) having striae distensae alba on the abdomen or thighs can apply topical 20% glycolic acid daily to the entire treatment area. In addition, these patients apply 10% L-ascorbic acid, 2% zinc sulfate, and 0.5% tyrosine to half of the treatment area and 0.05% tretinoin emollient cream to the other half of the treatment area. The creams are applied on a daily basis for 12 weeks. Improvement is evaluated at 4 and 12 weeks with increased elastin content within the reticular and papillary dermis [14]. [Pg.19]

Following the peel the skin is carefully observed for any complications such as hyperpigmentation and infection. Results are maintained with serial peels and by using at-home tretinoin or glycolic acid, as well as by sun avoidance. [Pg.19]

Photoaging also add topical tretinoin (0.025%) and topical bleaching agents (4% hydrochinone, 20% azelaic acid) for at least 2 weeks once a day (in the evening) to decrease the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and promote wound healing... [Pg.32]

Use of topical retinoids (tretinoin, tazaro-tene, retinol formulations) for 2 to 6 weeks prior to peeling thins the stratum cornemn, reduces the content of epidermal melanin, and expedites epidermal healing. Retinoids also enhance the penetration of the peeling agent. They should be discontinued several days prior to the peeling procedure. Retinoids can be resumed post-operatively after all evidence of... [Pg.107]
