Three-phase divider

The overall process can be divided into three phases, the heating and cracking phase, the reaction phase, and the soaking phase. [Pg.422]

It is observed that the insulation resistance of one phase with the other two phases grounded is approximately twice that of the entire winding. Therefore, when the three phases are tested separately. the observed alue of the resistance of each phase is divided by two to obtain the actual insulation resistance. [Pg.227]

The process involved in the incident is concerned with the separation of crude into three phases. The crude is pumped into a two stage separation process where it is divided into three phases oil, gas, and water. The water is cleaned up and dumped to drain. The remaining mixture of oil and gas is then pumped into the main oil line where it is metered and sent on for further processing. A simplified process diagram is shown in Figure 7.1. The case study described here is centered on a flange leak in one of the oil pipeline pumps (pump A) and its associated pressure relief valve piping. [Pg.294]

The test divides the drilling fluid into three phases the liquid phase, the suspended particulate phase, and the solid phase. These phases are designed to represent the anticipated conditions that organisms would be exposed to when drilling mud is discharged into the ocean. Certain drilling fluid components are water column, others are fine particulates which would stay suspended, and still water soluble and will dissolve in the other material would settle rapidly to the bottom. [Pg.684]

Clinical trials are usually divided into three phases. In phase I clinical trials, the new drug is tested in a small (20-80) group of healthy volunteers to evaluate its... [Pg.374]

Epoxides such as ethylene oxide and higher olefin oxides may be produced by the catalytic oxidation of olefins in gas-liquid-particle operations of the slurry type (S7). The finely divided catalyst (for example, silver oxide on silica gel carrier) is suspended in a chemically inactive liquid, such as dibutyl-phthalate. The liquid functions as a heat sink and a heat-transfer medium, as in the three-phase Fischer-Tropsch processes. It is claimed that the process, because of the superior heat-transfer properties of the slurry reactor, may be operated at high olefin concentrations in the gaseous process stream without loss with respect to yield and selectivity, and that propylene oxide and higher... [Pg.77]

We start by considering a schematic representation of a porous metal film deposited on a solid electrolyte, e.g., on Y203-stabilized-Zr02 (Fig. 5.17). The catalyst surface is divided in two distinct parts One part, with a surface area AE is in contact with the electrolyte. The other with a surface area Aq is not in contact with the electrolyte. It constitutes the gas-exposed, i.e., catalytically active film surface area. Catalytic reactions take place on this surface only. In the subsequent discussion we will use the subscripts E (for electrolyte) and G (for gas), respectively, to denote these two distinct parts of the catalyst film surface. Regions E and G are separated by the three-phase-boundaries (tpb) where electrocatalytic reactions take place. Since, as previously discussed, electrocatalytic reactions can also take place to, usually,a minor extent on region E, one may consider the tpb to be part of region E as well. It will become apparent below that the essence of NEMCA is the following One uses electrochemistry (i.e. a slow electrocatalytic reaction) to alter the electronic properties of the metal-solid electrolyte interface E. [Pg.206]

The sensorgram can be divided into three phases association during sancple injection, steady-state where the rate of analyte binding is balanced by dissociation from the complex and dissociation from the surface diming buffer flow at the end of sarrqile injection (Fig. 1). [Pg.777]

Laboratory reactor for studying three-phase processes can be divided in reactors with mobile and immobile catalyst particles. Bubble (suspension) column reactors, mechanically stirred tank reactors, ebullated-bed reactors and gas-lift reactors belong the class of reactors with mobile catalyst particles. Fixed-bed reactors with cocurrent (trickle-bed reactor and bubble columns, see Figs. 5.4-7 and 5.4-8 in Section 5.4.1) or countercurrent (packed column, see Fig. 5.4-8) flow of phases are reactors with immobile catalyst particles. A mobile catalyst is usually of the form of finely powdered particles, while coarser catalysts are studied when placing them in a fixed place (possibly moving as in mechanically agitated basket-type reactors). [Pg.301]

A separator divides a process stream into three phases a liquid organic stream, a liquid aqueous stream, and a gas stream. The feed stream contains three components, all of which are present to some extent in the separated steams. The composition and flowrate of the feed stream are known. All the streams will be at the same temperature and pressure. The phase equilibria for the three phases is available. How many design variables need to be specified in order to calculate the output stream compositions and flow rates ... [Pg.32]

The clinical evaluation of a new drug is divided into three phases. The first phase of human testing considers what chemical actions a drug has, how it is... [Pg.631]

It is often helpful to take a brief look back at aspects of the history of science in order to make complex topics easier to grasp. The history of physics can be divided into three phases ... [Pg.243]

First of all, the physical structure of the packed bed in the conversion system is defined. The fuel bed structure can be divided into three phases, namely the interstitial gas phase, the intraparticle solid phase, and the intraparticle gas phase. By means of this terminology it is easier to address certain mass and heat transport phenomena taking place on macro and micro scale inside the packed bed during the thermochemical conversion, see Figure 8. [Pg.20]

The catalytic cycle can be divided into three phases, through each of which the three active sites pass in sequence. First, ADP and Pj are bound (1), then the anhydride bond forms (2), and finally the product is released (3). Each time protons pass through the Fo channel protein into the matrix, all three active sites change from their current state to the next. It has been shown that the energy for proton transport is initially converted into a rotation of the y subunit, which in turn cyclically alters the conformation of the a and p subunits, which are stationary relative to the Fo part, and thereby drives ATP synthesis. [Pg.142]

Multiple colloids involve the coexistence of three phases, of which two are finely divided, such as multiple emulsions (mayonnaise, milk) of water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w) or oil-in-water-in-oil (o/w/o). [Pg.7]

In this case the reaction occurs only in the hquid phase (the oils have negligible vapor pressure), but reaction requires a solid catalyst such as finely divided Ni, which is suspended in the hquid. Thus we see that this is in fact a three-phase reactor containing H2 gas, organic hquid reactants and products, and sohd catalyst. [Pg.494]

It is worth noting that if the two surfactants which are mixed do not share the same value of k, as for instance an alkylbenzene sulfonate (k = 0.16) and an alkylsuhate (k = 0.10), then Eqs. 10-12 have to be divided by k to be expressed in ACN units which have the same meaning in all cases, whatever the k s [33]. The value a/k has been called EPACNUS (Extrapolated Preferred Alkane Carbon Number at Unit Sahnity and no-alcohol), since it is the value of ACN when the conditions S = 1 wt % NaCl,/(A) = 0 and T = 25 °C are satisfied. If the optimiun formulation is determined experimentally, not from the occurrence of three-phase behavior but from the minimum of interfacial tension, as is often the case at low surfactant concentration or when the oil phase is not transparent, it is called EACNmin or Umin [17,34,35]. [Pg.92]

The process of transcription of a typical gene of E. coli can be divided into three phases initiation, elongation, and termination. [Note Within the DNA molecule, regions of both strands can serve as templates for specific RNA molecules. However, only one of the two DNA strands serves as a template within a specific stretch of double helix.]... [Pg.415]

The chemistry of cheesemaking can be divided into several phases the characteristics of milk, the cheesemaking process, and the ripening of cheese. The types of cheeses differ in specific aspects of the three phases, but there are substantial similarities. General principles will be emphasized in this chapter, with references to unique aspects of important types. The reader is referred to the previous volume of Fundamentals of Dairy Chemistry for early research reports (Emstrom and Wong 1974). The details of the technical procedures for the manufacture of different cheeses are beyond the scope of this book. Selected references on the manufacture of a variety of cheeses include Van Slyke... [Pg.634]
