Water still

Surface preparation of the core foil was originally simple acid etching. As the importance of durable surface treatments became known, a more stable chemical conversion coating with an organic primer-like coating became standard. Still, water ingression into honeycomb structure continued to cause the occasional... 

The test divides the drilling fluid into three phases the liquid phase, the suspended particulate phase, and the solid phase. These phases are designed to represent the anticipated conditions that organisms would be exposed to when drilling mud is discharged into the ocean. Certain drilling fluid components are water column, others are fine particulates which would stay suspended, and still water soluble and will dissolve in the other material would settle rapidly to the bottom. 

H.L. Stalcup (Ref 28) evaluated the instru- -ment for the particle size determination of HMX used in rocket formulations. He found that Coulter Counter distribution was similar to that obtained with the Micromerograph except at the large particle end, where the Micromerograph indicated particles over lOOp compared to 32 p for the Coulter Counter. Median values were 13.5p by Micromerograph and 16 p for the Coulter Counter. The samples for the Coulter Counter were run on an as received basis, ie, while still water-isopropanol wet ... 

The diffusion of one liquid into another also demonstrates molecular motion. Figure 2 shows that if a drop of ink is added to a beaker of still water, the color slowly but surely spreads throughout the water. The water molecules and the molecules that give ink its color move continuously. As they slide by one another, the ink molecules eventually become distributed uniformly throughout the volume of liquid. 

Analyses were performed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Gel filtration of oligosaccharides was effected in a thermostated (65 <>C) column (210 X 1.5 i.d.) filled with polycrylamide gel (Bio-gel P2, 200-400 mesh Bio Rad-USA), using stilled water as eluent (flow rate 30 ml.h-1).

An important practical problem in ricefields is the loss of N fertilizer through volatilization of NH3 from the floodwater. Loss of NH3 is sensitive to the pH of the floodwater, and hence is intimately linked to the dynamics of dissolved CO2 (Bouldin and Alimago, 1976). To quantify this it is necessary to consider the simultaneous transfers of CO2 and NH3 across the air-water interface and their coupling through acid-base reactions. There is an equation of type (3.33) for the flux of NH3 across the still air layer and, as for the dissolved CO2 and carbonate species, the flux across the still water layer is...

An increase in temperature generally causes an increase in the solubility of solutes. This general rule is followed by most proteins up to about 40°C. Above this temperature, however, many proteins aggregate and precipitate from solution. If the protein of interest is heat stable and still water soluble above 40°C, a major step in protein purification can be achieved because most other proteins precipitate at these temperatures and can be removed by centrifugation. 

Anchor ice is ice attached to the bed of streams, lakes, and shallow seas, irrespective of its nature of formation. On clear, cold nights in relatively still water, it may form directly on submerged objects. It also develops in supercooled water of turbulence sufficient to maintain uniform temperature at all depths.
