Thiamine Mononitrate, U5P. Thiamine mononitrate, thiamine nitrate, vitamin B mononitrate, is a colorless compound. It is soluble in water (1 35) and slightly soluble in alcohol 2% aqueous solutions have a pH of 6.0 to 7.1. This salt is more stable than the chloride hydrochloride in the dry state, less hygro.scopic, and recommended for multivitamin preparations and enrichment of flour mixes. 

Thiamine hydrochlorideis very water soluble (lg/1 mL). It is also very hygroscopic, making it difficult to use in dry formulations. This salt is commonly used in liquid and injectable formulations. Thiamine nitrate is sufficiently water soluble (1 g/35 mL) that it can be used in liquid formulations because the RDAs are less than 2 mg per day. Because it is nonhygroscopic, it is commonly used in dry dosage forms.

Several chemical routes are used for commercial production of thiamine chloride and thiamine nitrate, the thiamine sales forms introduced in the market. Despite the high functionalization of the thiamine molecule, the current industrial processes starting from chemical commodities deliver thiamine at reasonable yield and are, thus, quite cost effective [334]. Only few attempts to develop microbial production processes have been reported in the scientific or patent literature [334].

Fig. lb). When a more polar solvent system consisting of 1-butanol/ethanol/aqueous 0.15 M monobasic potassium phosphate (8 3 8) is used, thiamine nitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, and nicotinamide are well resolved from each other, as shown in Fig. Ic. 

Fig. 2 illustrates the CCC chromatogram of water-soluble vitamins obtained with the above solvent system, which comprise 1-butanol and aqueous 0.15 M monobasic potassium phosphate, including 1.5% of 1-octanesulfonic acid sodium salt. Riboflavin sodium phosphate, cyanocobalamin, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, and thiamine nitrate were separated using the lower phase as the mobile phase. Riboflavin was found as an impurity contained in the riboflavin sodium phosphate sample.
