The New Millennium

Recent developments in zeolite synthesis and new materials include (i) the use of combinatorial methodologies, microwave heating, multiple templates or SDAs and concentrated fluoride media in synthesis, (ii) synthesis using the charge density mismatch (COM) concept, (iii) synthesis in ionothermal media, (iv) synthesis with complex designer templates or SDAs, (v) synthesis of nanozeohtes, (vi) zeoUte membranes and thin films (vii) and germanosilicate zeoHtes [76]. Several of these developments are discussed here.

The Fossil Power Plants of the 1990s and into the early part of the new millennium will be the Combined Cycle Power Plants, with the gas turbine as being the centerpiece of the plant. It is estimated that between 1997-2006 there will be an addition of 147.7 GW of power. These plants have replaced the large Steam Turbine Plants, which were the main fossil power plants through the 1980s. The Combined Cycle Power Plant is not new in concept, since some have been in operation since the midl950s. These plants came into their own with the new high capacity and efficiency gas turbines. 

In summaiy, diesel fuel with veiy low to no sulfur content is now possible with chemical and technological advances. Along with catalytic converters, electronic fuel systems, and sensors, the diesel engine for the new millennium will he capable of complying with ever more stringent EPA exliaust emissions. The diesel engine will continue to sei"ve as the main global workliorse for all of the many thousands of different applications of its power cycle. 

The terms allergy and atopy are in close proximity of our lives in the new millennium since our lifestyles have enormously changed. Encounters with various new molecules in air, water and diet, living in a more polluted world with less exposure to infections, and infectious agents are supposed to be the major causative factors added to the genetic propensity of developing IgE antibodies responsible for symptoms and...

It is highly likely that by the second decade of the new millennium silicon-based computing will have reached fundamental technological or physical limits. Computers will therefore be based on substrates that exhibit superior performance characteristics. One possibility is the photon.
