Textile pigment printing, involves the printing of an insoluble coloring material on a textile fabric. The pigment, which has no affinity for the fibers of the fabric, is adhered to the fabric by a resin binder. It has been shown that a suitable pigment may serve as an UV stabilizer as such. Resin binders are acrylic copolymer binders, styrene-butadiene latex binders, or modified nitrile polymer binders. 

Pigments. Pigment-printed textiles represent the highest percentage of all printed textiles, accounting for between 40 and 50% of all ceUulose and over 90% of polyester—cotton blend prints. This is primarily the result of the uncompHcated process, low cost of imparting colored patterns to textiles with pigment systems, and theh appHcabiHty to all fibers.

The textiles printing industry has an appreciable interest in P.Y.17 and applies it in the form of pigment preparations. Where its fastness properties satisfy the specifications and where the use requirements are not too demanding, the pigment is also utilized for spin dyeing purposes. Manufacturer recommendations include media such as polyacrylonitrile and cellulose acetate fibers, on which 1/3 SD pigment prints exhibit a lightfastness which is equal to step 5 on the Blue Scale. 

In pigment printing the dyestuff pigments are bound to the textile by means of a polymer binder system and no additional washing is performed however, wastewater is released from the cleaning of the equipment and machinery.
