Testis tissues

Iangdon, W. Y., et ah. The c-cbl proto-oncogene is preferentially expressed in thymus and testis tissue and encodes a nuclear protein. J Virol, 1989, 63(12), 5420-4. [Pg.92]

Jackson et al. (1988) were the first to employ the immunogold-silver staining (IGSS) method in combination with microwave heating. They completed within minutes the incubations in primary and secondary antibodies for detecting immunoglobulins in paraffin sections of human tonsil, van de Kant et al. (1990) applied the same method, except that resin instead of paraffin sections were used to detect bromodeoxyuridine incorporated in cells of the mouse testis. Tissue morphology is preserved better in a resin than in paraffin. The former also allows the use of thinner sections. [Pg.167]

Gonadotropin LH FSH Prolactin Diabetogenic (o growth hormone ) Adipokin Some Little Little Little None Yes No No No No Increased production of testosterone in incubated testis tissue (Brady, 1951)... [Pg.310]

CNG channels are expressed in retinal photoreceptors and olfactory neurons, and play a key role in visual and olfactory signal transduction. In addition, CNG channels are found at low density in some other cell types and tissues such as brain, testis, and kidney. While the function of CNG channels in sensory neurons has been unequivocally demonstrated, the role of these channels in other cell types, where expression has been observed, remains to be established. Based on their phylogenetic relationship, the six CNG channels... [Pg.400]

In addition, several other organs, like the heart, ovaty, amnion, chorion, decidua, testis, epididymis and prostate, have been reported to synthesize OT, suggesting a paracrine role for this hormone in these tissues. Ectopic AVP production by lung cancer cells or other neoplasms has been described in humans, leading to the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion. [Pg.1274]

OTR is also expressed in male reproductive tissues, like testis, epididymis and in the prostate. OT increases the resting tone of prostatic tissue from guinea pig, rat, dog and human. The activation of these receptors could lead to the contraction of the prostate and the resulting expulsion of prostatic secretions during ejaculation. [Pg.1277]

Vertebrate liver is a very rich source of enzymes that metabolize lipophilic xenobiotics, and subcellular fractions are prepared to study metabolism. Sometimes, other tissues such as brain, kidney, testis, and ovary are also treated in this way. A typical subcellular fractionation of liver might be as follows ... [Pg.45]

Mitochondrial cytochrome P450 systems are found in steroidogenic tissues such as adrenal cortex, testis, ovary, and placenta and are concerned with the biosyn-... [Pg.89]

Triacylglycerols must be hydrolyzed by a lipase to their constiment fatty acids and glycerol before further catab-ohsm can proceed. Much of this hydrolysis (hpolysis) occurs in adipose tissue with release of free fatty acids into the plasma, where they are found combined with semm albumin. This is followed by free fatty acid uptake into tissues (including hver, heart, kidney, muscle, lung, testis, and adipose tissue, but not readily by brain), where they are oxidized or reesterified. The uti-hzation of glycerol depends upon whether such tissues... [Pg.197]

Testiculat androgens are synthesized in the interstitial tissue by the Leydig cells. The immediate precursor of the gonadal steroids, as for the adrenal steroids, is cholesterol. The rate-limiting step, as in the adrenal, is delivery of cholesterol to the inner membrane of the mitochondria by the transport protein StAR. Once in the proper location, cholesterol is acted upon by the side chain cleavage enzyme P450scc. The conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone is identical in adrenal, ovary, and testis. In the latter two tissues, however, the reaction is promoted by LH rather than ACTH. [Pg.442]

An evaluation of the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (Giovannucci et al., 1995) has detected a lower prostate cancer risk associated with the greater consumption of tomatoes and related food products. Tomatoes are the primary dietary source of lycopene and lycopene concentrations are highest in testis and adrenal tissue (Clinton, 1998). In paired benign and malignant prostate tissue from 25 American men, 53-74 yrs, undergoing... [Pg.121]

A recent series of experiments with cats, chickens, or rats exposed to [uniformly labeled 14C-phenyl]-TOCP shows that a complex array of oxidized and dearylated metabolites are found in excreta and various tissues including the liver, kidney, testis, and brain (Abou-Donia et al. 1990a, 1990b Nomeir and Abou-Donia 1986 Somkuti and Abou-Donia 1990). Cats and chickens, like humans, are sensitive to TOCP-induced delayed neuropathy (Baron 1981). A similar array of oxidized and dearylated derivatives of tri-para-cresyl phosphate (but no cyclic metabolites) were identified by mass spectrometry in the urine and... [Pg.172]
