These two tests characterize properties of the apoprotein, whereas fluorescence properties of the LHC provide information on the organization of LHC-bound pigments (2). The fatty acids tested here did not alter the fluorescence properties, which is in contrast to Triton X-100 that strongly affects both, the fluorescence excitation and emission spectrum. Consequently, fatty acids at molecular lengths of 17 to 22 X render the LHC apoprotein permeable for O2 and ff " but do not change the arrangement of the pigments. 

The diagrams of Fig. 26.7 are also included in Fig. 26.8 to compare these data with the counterparts derived from the tests characterized by PGA = 0.013g and 0.041g. The overall comparison in Fig. 26.8 shows that the prohles of a ox exhibit quite similar shapes. As regards the amount of amplihcation, it is believed that the effect of loading history on soil properties may play a key role and should be accounted for in a realistic manner in numerical simulations.
