The ability of the PEM to adapt to the ranges of PEFC operating conditions for the targeted application, for example, enabling the start-up of fuel cell vehicles at subfreezing temperatures, normal operation at temperatures close to or above 100°C and operation at low RH. [Pg.366]

Dispersants are particularly important when engines operate below their normal operating temperature (as is the case of a short urban trip). Dispersants act by keeping oxidation products in suspension. [Pg.360]

The results of over 1 year of continuous, on-line acoustic emission (AE) structural surveillance of high temperature / high pressure steam headers, gained on 2 M-scale 600MW supercritical multifuel ENEL power units in normal operation, are presented in the paper. The influence of background noise, the correlation between plant operating conditions (steady load, load variations, startup / shutdown transients) and AE activity and the diagnostic evaluation of recorded AE events are also discussed. [Pg.75]

Regulations require that the incinerator furnace be at normal operating conditions, including furnace temperature, before hazardous wastes are injected. This requires auxiUary fuel burners for furnace preheating. In addition, the burners provide heat when the wastes burned are of low heating value. Auxihary burners are sized for conditions where Hquid wastes are injected without the addition of high heating value wastes. [Pg.54]

Normal Operation. The designer of a chemical plant must provide an adequate interface between the process and the operating employees. This is usually accompHshed by providing instmments to sense pressures, temperatures, flows, etc, and automatic or remote-operated valves to control the process and utility streams. Alarms and interlock systems provide warnings of process upsets and automatic shutdown for excessive deviations from the desired ranges of control, respectively. Periodic intermption of operations is necessary to ensure that instmments are properly caUbrated and that emergency devices would operate if needed (see Flow measurement Temperaturemeasurement). [Pg.100]

For lightly doped n-type semiconductors at normal operating temperatures there is complete donor dissociation (donor saturation). [Pg.345]

Sihcone fluids have good dielectric properties, loss factor, specific resistance, and dielectric strength at normal operating conditions, and the properties vary only slightly with temperature (59,328,350). The properties in combination with relatively low flammabiUty have led to the use of siUcones in transformers and other large electrical appHcations (351). The dielectric constant of a 1000-cSt oil is 2.8 at 30°C and 2.6 at 100°C. The loss factor is low,... [Pg.52]

Because of their ordered stmcture, molecular sieves have high capacity at low water concentrations and do not exhibit a capiHary condensation pore-filling mechanism at high water concentrations. The desiccating properties of the material are stiU good at elevated temperatures (Fig. 10). A dew point of —75° C can be obtained in a gas dried at 90°C with a molecular sieve that adsorbs water to the level of 1 wt %. In normal operations at ambient temperature, dew points of < — 100° C have been measured. [Pg.513]

Open-Loop versus Closed-Loop Dynamics It is common in industry to manipulate coolant in a jacketed reacdor in order to control conditions in the reacdor itself. A simplified schematic diagram of such a reactor control system is shown in Fig. 8-2. Assume that the reacdor temperature is adjusted by a controller that increases the coolant flow in proportion to the difference between the desired reactor temperature and the temperature that is measured. The proportionality constant is K. If a small change in the temperature of the inlet stream occurs, then depending on the value or K, one might observe the reactor temperature responses shown in Fig. 8-3. The top plot shows the case for no control (K = 0), which is called the open loop, or the normal dynamic response of the process by itself. As increases, several effects can be noted. First, the reactor temperature responds faster and faster. Second, for the initial increases in K, the maximum deviation in the reactor temperature becomes smaller. Both of these effects are desirable so that disturbances from normal operation have... [Pg.718]

Plastic Pipe In contrast to other piping materials, plastic pipe is free from internal and external corrosion, is easily cut and joined, and does not cause galvanic corrosion when coupled to other materials. Allowable stresses and upper temperature limits are low. Normal operation is in the creep range. Fluids for which a plastic is not suited penetrate and soften it rather than dissolve surface layers. Coefficients... [Pg.978]
