Technology Studies

The very high powers of magnification afforded by the electron microscope, either scanning electron microscopy (sem) or scanning transmission electron microscopy (stem), are used for identification of items such as wood species, in technological studies of ancient metals or ceramics, and especially in the study of deterioration processes taking place in various types of art objects. [Pg.417]

To overcome these problems many molecular-biological, biochemical, physiological, and technological studies were done. This mini-review will discuss possible impact of technological methods to the solution of problems shown above in the case of nitrogenase-driven hydrogen production. [Pg.58]

Implications for Practice. Efforts to increase the participation of African Americans in science should be informed and driven by research on African Americans and other underrepresented raciahethnic minorities in the history and sociology of science. The cycle of teaching just the facts should be broken by including science-and-technology studies in teacher education, so that K-12 students will be exposed to the principles of the field (see Lederman, 2004). [Pg.151]

Incorporating discussions of the social dimensions of science into science courses broadens students understanding of current theory, tools, analytical techniques, and how different disciplines investigate and interpret the natural world. Exposure to science-and-technology studies would give non-scientists the perspective they need to participate in such debates. Instead of indoctrinating more students into the current scientihc culture, scientists should work with social scientists and scholars of education to make science more welcoming to those who were formerly excluded from STEM holds. [Pg.157]

Implications for Research. A new pedagogy should include science-and-technology studies, in which researchers look at science as a social enterprise. The subject matter of a reformed science education would include the interaction of science and the society in which it is practiced-for example, how society influences scientists in choosing problems to investigate (see Lederman, 2004). [Pg.157]

Typical FeasihiUty Phase (FEL-2) Deliverables These are listed below. In this phase, emphasis is on determining the best technical and economic flow scheme, as well as the support systems required to provide the necessary annual production rate at the sales quality required. The focus for the process engineer should be on confirming the number and type of process and technology studies needed, as well as the number of alternate cases required to be evaluated and/or simulated. [Pg.47]
